Cliftondale Elementary School-Community Newsletter
October 7th
Greetings Mustangs!
This past week, we hosted our Title I Literacy Workshop, and we appreciate the many parents that attended the session! Through this session, parents learn a lot about literacy and how to support their Mustang with literacy through literacy games and activities that require little to no preparation. Many thanks to our FABULOUS Literacy Coach, Ms. Kalista and Ms. Johnson and our awesome Parent Liaison, Ms. Render for creating this opportunity. Please use the link below to complete the Evaluation Survey Link if you didn't have the opportunity to do so on Wednesday. Your feedback is greatly appreciated! Thank you also to our moms that supporting in classrooms for 'Moms on the Move' and our 'Dads on Duty'. We truly appreciate your support!
Thank you also to the many parents that attended our Round Two of Redistricting Meetings this week. I encourage all parents and community members to attend these sessions as our community will be impacted with the redistricting. Additional information pertaining the rezoning is accessible via the Redistricting section of this newsletter of by CLICKING HERE. The next redistricting session will be October 20, 2022 (6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.) at Langston Hughes High School. During this session, community members will review and provide input on revised attendance zone draft plans in facilitated small-group discussions. Staff used comments to develop a recommended attendance zone recommendation for Board consideration. Community members may submit any questions by CLICKING HERE.
Parent Conference Day at Cliftondale Elementary is on October 12th. Please schedule a parent conference with your child's teacher. This is a great time to engage in conversations with your child's teacher pertaining his/her academic progress.
October is National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month. Bullying Prevention Month is a nationwide call to action around educating communities as to their roles in bullying prevention and to educate and raise awareness of bullying prevention. Fulton County and the Office of Student Supports are excited to recognize October as National Bullying Prevention Month and October 24th-28th as Red Ribbon Week. Throughout the month, students will engage in weekly assemblies around bullying, how we prevent bullying, and what to do if they encounter a bully.
Can you believe it's the end of October? This month has truly flown by and in no time, it will be Thanksgiving Break and the Winter Holiday! As we approach the upcoming holidays, it important to remind parents and families that candy, desserts, baked goods (store bought/homemade), or any other edible items are not to be sold or distributed at school or on the bus unless approved in advance by school administration. Per our Student Code of Conduct, students who do not adhere to this expectation are subject to disciplinary action for violation 7A: Failure to Follow Rules and all candy or food items will be confiscated. Please discuss this expectation and possible consequences with your student(s) as this will be taken very seriously. This is due to recent national and state reports about students sharing edible items and synthetic medications with other students that contain very harmful substances.
Please know that taking this measure will help us maintain a safe environment for all students. You can help us protect your student(s) by requesting that they not eat anything given to them by another person, anything that they have not brought from your home or anything not in its original sealed package.
Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping all of our students safe at school!
Lastly, there is no school on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. We will see you guys back on Thursday. Enjoy this extended weekend!
Kind Regards,
Principal Canty
