Have a Great Summer!
π¬ Superintendent's Message π¬
Read, read, and read. This summer, enjoy opportunities with the family to discover new books, authors, and genres. It is important for all students of all ages to continue reading over the summer. See some great tips for summer reading. Reading is such a great way for students to continue to develop and strengthen a whole host of literacy skills including their vocabulary and comprehension skills. The Hingham Public Library also offers summer reading programs for students of all ages.
Embrace the great outdoors. Spending time outside has numerous benefits, such as reducing stress and anxiety, improving mood, and boosting creativity. Consider activities like walking, hiking, biking, gardening, or relaxing in a shady park.
Make time for loved ones. It's easy to get caught up in our daily routines and miss out on quality time with friends and family. This summer, prioritize reconnecting with your loved ones through shared meals, game nights, movie nights, or simply picking up the phone for a catch-up call.
Prioritize sleep. During busy times, our sleep habits can suffer. Make an effort to establish a consistent sleep schedule and give your body the rest it deserves. Most importantly, have fun and do something that brings you joy each day. Whether trying a new hobby, indulging in a favorite activity or simply taking time to relax and unwind, make sure to prioritize your happiness this summer.

π§ Foster Building Project Update π§
The site work preparing the property for the new school construction is nearing completion as work on the retaining walls on Otis Hill is in full swing. The pad for the new building is ready and work on the vertical construction of the building is expected to begin in the next few weeks.
Bidding results were received in early May and Bacon Construction Company was the successful low bidder for phase 2 of the project, coming in under budget and allowing the School Building Committee to review and discuss the potential for including items designated as alternates such as the ground source heat pump HVAC system, softball field and irrigation. Decisions on the latter two will likely not be made until we are deep into construction and have a better sense of available budget dollars. Members of the project team have had very positive experiences working with Bacon and we are grateful for the opportunity to work with them on the new elementary school project.
While the site work phase was delayed a bit due to heavy rains in March and other issues involving the retaining wall work, the project remains on schedule for completion and school opening in September 2024.
