Hello North Rockland Families,
Happy Halloween!
Time sure does fly when you are having fun! This last week, although it has come and gone too quickly, has been one of my favorites since becoming Superintendent of our incredible District. Each day we held a variety of activities, events and visits from special guests for our students. Everyone had a such wonderful time attending our equally eerie and safe spook-tacular events. The costumes this year were top notch and it felt so nice to be able to fully celebrate Halloween Week #NRTogether!
From Halloween parades, to trunk or treats, door decorating contests to costume contests, our dedicated teachers and staff made sure our children were able to enjoy every fun and memorable moment of school this week. Thank you all for setting up streamers, staying after school, dressing up and making this time of year truly magic for our students.
As you have seen from our social media highlights, our students never leave out the North Rockland Community during their holiday celebrations. Learners spent part of their ghostly week selflessly bringing joy and giving back to the local community. New Main Street in the Village of Haverstraw has been transformed into a must see fright night extravaganza thanks to our talented artists’ window paintings.
When we return on Monday it will be November, another month with so many exciting things happening in our buildings. We can’t wait to continue upward and onward this school year, but for now, we hope everyone has a happy, healthy and haunted Halloween Weekend!

Hybrid Parent/Teacher Conferences
In an effort to accommodate parents and limit capacity in our schools, NRCSD is hosting Hybrid Parent Teacher Conferences. While we know face-to-face conversations are a better option for some parents, we also understand the convenience of a virtual conference is more desirable for some families. Parents will be able to choose how they want to schedule their P/T conferences either in person, via Google Meet, or through a phone conference. This will serve to offer parents the option that works best for them while also reducing the number of visitors in our buildings for this event.
Please find a link to the schedule of the dates and time at each school building linked here.

NR Appreciates our Transportation Team
Let’s give a round of to applause our amazing bus drivers for always ensuring our students start and end their days on the right foot.
Tonight the wonderful transportation team at NRCSD were treated to a well deserved appreciation dinner. The North Rockland Board of Education, Dr. Kris Felicello and the Administration Team thanked them all for stepping up this year, assisting the District during the national shortage of drivers and providing consistent daily transportation for all students -- to and from school, during sports and beyond.
It was a great night spent #NRTogether, swapping stories and reflecting on the important role these caring and dedicated individuals play in the overall education of our students.
Please join us in thanking them for their service to our community through the link here!
Haverstraw Village Halloween Windows
32 North Rockland High School Art students understood the spooky assignment. New Main Street's merchant windows along with Town Hall in the Village of Haverstraw have gone from homey to haunted thanks to the wicked talent of the Red Raiders. Our artists captured this year's supernatural theme, "Disney gone scary," so perfectly, it's scary. From sinister villains to 101 Dalmatians with a ghoulish twist, our favorite characters were completely reimagined to take on fright night. Each piece reflects the talent, hard work and touch of spellbinding magic that students poured into creating them. Make sure to see them for yourself while they are on display... if you DARE!
Special thanks goes out to our partners in the Village of Haverstraw for helping us continue this ghosty tradition #NRTogether! More photos linked here.
Nick Teglas Recognized as CNBC 2021 Financial Literacy Leader!
We are so proud to share that North Rockland High School Business Educator, Nick Teglas, was recognized as one of CNBC’s 2021 Financial Literacy Leaders!
During the networks America’s Financial Education town hall with U.S. Secretary of Education Dr. Miguel Cardona, community leaders from across the nation, most of whom work in underserved communities to provide personal finance education, were honored for their commitment to teaching students about financial literacy. Currently, only 21 states require the curriculum to be taught in high school classrooms.
According to Teglas, his students must understand that their current financial position should not define their future. He strives to teach his students during his Career and Financial Management I and II classes that by saving and making thoughtful investments, they can achieve economic freedom.

Green your Halloween
There are several ways to reduce environmental impact (and choose healthier alternatives) on the candy front:
- Choose candy in less plastic packaging
- Make treats yourself.
- Opt for small package free gifts instead of candy.
- Save decorations and costumes to be reused in future years or give away for others to use.
- Recycle what you can by checking packaging for recycling instructions.

NR Weekly Positive Case Report
***NRCSD continues to work tirelessly to ensure that all health and safety protocols are working effectively. It is incumbent upon each and every one of us to make sure all safety protocols are followed at all times—in and out of school— so we can mitigate the spread of COVID-19. We must work together in partnership—schools, families, and students—and be mindful of the great responsibility we all have to protect ourselves and those around us. This virus can be present without any symptoms. That fact alone can lead to the unintentional infection of others.
