Hump Day Happenings
Issue 2 ~ 8/30 thru 9/5
Hmmmm... So What Will My Child be Taught This Year?
"Curriculum night is an educational open house by grade, that takes place at the beginning of the school year for parents to receive critical information that will benefit your child's learning throughout the year."
You can expect information from your child's teacher on what and possibly when they will be taught new skills throughout the year.
Now that we got the what, let's talk about the when and how. Curriculum Night will take place on Wednesday, September 6th from 5p - 6:30p and be broken down into three 20 minute sessions. This will allow for parents that have multiple mustangs to make the rounds. K-2 Sessions will take place in your child's classroom. Grades 3- 6 session locations will be communicated by your child's teacher.
Sessions times are as follows:
Session 1: 5p - 5:20p
Session 2: 5:30p - 5:50p
Session 3: 6p - 6:20p
Notice that there's a 10 minute transition time built into the night. This is to again accommodate parents that need to attend multiple sessions. The final 10 minute transition is to allow time to head to the first PTA meeting of the school year. More on that later in this newsletter.
Alright, time to wrangle it all in... we know what Curriculum Night is, we know how the sessions will flow... soooooo when is it again???
Curriculum Night is next Wednesday, September 6th from 5p to 6:30p.

Details
This is an informal program to introduce young children to the basics of soccer during several one-hour sessions on Friday evenings. The program will include skill building exercises, running, games and short-sided scrimmages. The program will start on Friday, September 8th and continue through Friday, October 20th. Parents are encouraged to stay at the field to observe the activities, assist as needed, and socialize with other Kindergarten parents.
Kilgour School has a wonderful soccer program affiliated with the Soccer Association for Youth (SAY); however, Kindergarteners do not start participation in the SAY program until the Spring season, so this introduction is intended to get children ready for SAY soccer. This program is not affiliated with SAY Soccer.
The main emphasis is to have FUN. The idea of the program is to give children a love for an organized athletic activity. In addition, we help them to learn to respect coaches and referees. Although soccer can be quite competitive, this program is not. There will not be games against other schools. The goal is to be able to play a full field scrimmage by the last day. We will not keep score.
Volunteers Needed!
We also need parent volunteers to help. The Kindergarten Soccer program is parent run and cannot happen without your help. You do not have to have any coaching experience. Volunteer activities include running drill stations, field set up and prep, and organizing the drills. Additionally, we are looking for someone who would be willing to manage the overall Friday night sessions. In coaching, as with parenting, the program advocates motivating with positive reinforcement when children do well. Please look for positive things to discuss with your child about the program.
Gear
Your young athlete will need a size-3 soccer ball, shin guards and athletic shoes to participate. The shin guards should be covered with socks. Soccer cleats are not required at this age. This year we will be providing your child with a Kilgour soccer shirt they will be expected to wear for each Friday night session so we can equally divide the kids in separate groups. Please indicate the shirt size for your child when you register. Children cannot participate if they have casts or are wearing jewelry.

Meet Stacy Lunn, Kilgour's School Psychologist
My name is Stacy Lunn and I am happy to be back for my 15th year as Kilgour’s school psychologist. I am in the building this year 2.5 days a week in Room 1019 (next to Nurse Bobbi). My regular schedule will be Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesday mornings. You may see me on occasion on a Wednesday afternoon, but I am reserving that time for my Child Find position that I do a half day a week. I work part-time, so it could be a few days before I get back to you as it could be a non-workday for me. Email or Google chat is usually the fastest way to get a hold of me unless you catch me when I am in the building.
My door is always open and I am happy to assist in any way I can. If I can’t answer your question, I will always try to help figure out the next step with you.
