PMSA Weekly Update
October 27, 2023
From the Principal's Office
On Monday morning of October 23, PMSA teachers welcomed Mr. Jack Baldermann, former principal of Westmont High School and current superintendent of CUSD201, during our late start Professional Learning Community (PLC) faculty time. The purpose of his visit was to further our understanding of high-functioning PLC work, and how to get into the weeds in order to truly make an impact on student growth. In 2020, Westmont High School was selected by a panel of 20 national experts as Best Professional Learning Community in the country. This award was earned while under Mr. Baldermann’s leadership.
Mr. Baldermann spent the rest of the day visiting with each department during their common duty period. If you have never heard the term common duty period, this is a feature of the master schedule in which each content area has a common period off to collaborate and discuss lesson plans, assessments, resources, and/or instructional strategies, to name a few topics. Mr. Baldermann reminded each department that the essential components of a successful PLC are studying student performance through various data points, setting measurable goals based on these data points, and developing action steps in order move the needle on areas needing improvement. These are our non-negotiables. Our teachers will drive the decisions on these essential components, as they are the champions in every classroom, and they lead the learners! We look forward to sharing every step of the way with you.
Sincerely,
Cristin Chiganos
Interim Principal

“We had a good turnout for week one of Art Club! Artists of all levels challenged their visual skills with our Color Mixing Game. Students were given a mystery color swatch and had to match it by mixing paint from only our three primary colors: red, blue, and yellow. They did fantastic! We also talked about the beginning of our School Wall Mural which we will begin designing together as a group next.
If you are interested in joining, please stop by Room 504 on Tuesdays after school until 4:30 pm. Activity bus is available at 5:00 pm for bussers.
Questions may be directed to me, Professor Grace Schmidt via email (Gschmidt@pths209.org) or Teams.
Next Tuesday is Halloween and we will not meet. Our next meeting is the following Tuesday, November 7. We will begin talking about some of the musical influences we’ll be considering for the mural as well as walking through the start of individual large-scale paintings using the gridding technique – a must for mural painting accuracy! See you there!”

MESSAGE FROM PMSA PTO
Our goal this year is grow our membership. By growing in numbers, forming committees, and planning events at our school, we can accomplish so much more to make PMSA great for our students.
This year we are asking for a $10 dollar membership fee per family. We are hoping to also collect an ADDITIONAL $10 fee for fundraising to allow us to do events, activities, and support our students and teachers without having to hold a formal fundraiser.
It’s not too late to sign up to be a member, pay your dues and participate. This year we are holding a raffle for membership. A box of Halloween Candy and goodies will be given away to one lucky parent or teacher that joins PTO and pays dues before October 23.
If you have already filled out our membership form and paid dues for the 2023-24 school year, we thank you. If you have not, please see below.
