BCHS is A-rated Yet Again!
October was an incredible month with so many events, opportunities for involvement, and BC celebrations! From athletics, to performances, to conferences, to Homecoming, to district ELA interim assessments, Jaguars are shining through and through! We were also elated to find out that BCHS is rating an "A" by the Arizona Department of Education yet again for achievement on state tests, graduation rate, college and career readiness, and student success! Congratulations, BC! It truly takes a village to make this happen. Thank you to our teachers, our students, our support staff, our parents, and our community! Thank you for supporting these incredible kids and making their futures bright!
Have an incredible day, and make a positive difference, BCHS!

BCHS PRIDE "Be Classy" Students of the Month
At BCHS we use "Be Classy" cards to recognize students for demonstrating positive BC PRIDE behaviors on campus: being prepared, being respectful, having integrity, being disciplined, and ensuring everyone is united!
When a staff member sees a student following the monthly goal OR a student who is going above and beyond, the staff member can give the student a "Be Classy" card to recognize their positive behavior. Students then fill it out and put it in the box in the student lobby by Ms. Susie's desk.
Each month, we draw 10 winners.November GOAL: We have “I” integrity in the things I do; whether it is schoolwork, restroom use, choice of words or actions on or off campus and how we treat others at any time.
Winners:
Aidan Walker
Sal Cataldo
Gabe Rodriquez
Cruz Kaikala
Jacob Shurtleff
Kale Winters
Ben Bruun
Alaina Gould
Cobie Clark

November Month of Giving: Callahan Care
Homecoming kicked off the first annual Callahan Care fundraiser to help families in need. Callahan Care is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to making the world a better place by creating open closets and open pantries to supply families with free clothes, backpacks, shoes, and other essentials they may need. Callahan Care is reliant on the donations they receive through the community and focuses on helping families of students who are facing economic hardships so students can focus on school, and families have the essentials they need to support this.
This BCHS fundraiser is hosted by our student government and runs from Friday, October 27th through Friday, November 17th. This is a class competition, with the BCHS spirit stick being awarded to the class that raises the most money for Callahan Care! This is a wonderful opportunity for the BC Jaguar community to come together to raise money for an organization that assists so many families in need.
Save your new or gently used clothes, backpacks, and shoes – Starting on November 13th, we will have bins located in the front office lobby for students, staff, and families to drop off new or gently used items during the final week of our fundraiser.

Students in classes and clubs worked to ensure that more than 1,000 cards were ready for distribution prior to Veterans Day. BCHS Collaborative Team Spotlight: ELA 3-4
The ELA 3-4 collaborative team, made up of Ms. Merriman, Mrs. Calamanco, Mr. Morales, and Mrs. Peccia, is working together to make great strides in their students' learning of reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The team collaborates on shared common formative assessment data so they can talk collectively about how to support students that aren't quite there yet on essential skills. This allows the team to use class time and Flex Time to reteach, reassess, and to ultimately grow students. The team's work is paying off with measurable growth on this year's ELA 3-4 district interim assessment. ELA 3-4 students performed their highest on this assessment this year since it has been in place! Outstanding work, ELA 3-4!
BC Students Show Growth on DVUSD ELA Fall Interim Assessment
BCHS students at all levels, 9-12, topped our BCHS Fall ELA Interim Assessment scores since we started taking the assessment! Freshman students improved scores by 1%! Sophomores improved by 10%! And Juniors and Seniors improved by 4%! Great job showing what you know and working on those skills! A huge shout out goes to our teachers who are helping our students learn each and every day!
Flour Babies Create Learning Opportunity for Early Childhood Education Students
Early Childhood Education students designed and decorated their own Flour Baby so they could experience some of the joys of parenting a baby through class. Students were very creative in their creation of their flour baby-- from the design of the face, to the onesie that held the flour sack. Some students even elected to make two to try their hands at twins! Students had fun through this learning experience as they carried their babies to and from school ensuring the bag of flour remained intact.
Congratulations, Aiden Thatcher! National Merit Semifinalist Recognition

Show that Jaguar P.R.I.D.E!
BC Jaguar PRIDE means that our Jaguars are Prepared, Respectful, have Integrity, are Disciplined, and show that Everyone is united! To ensure a safe, focused, and positive learning environment, we PRIDE expectations with students on Thursday in second period.
- This includes our expectation that students keep their cellphones on silent mode in their backpack so students can properly engage in learning.
- Students should be prepared with a fully charged iPad each day and any other items required for class to help with their success.
- It is also critical that students are in class and on time to be present for learning which is critical for their success.
- We also expect our students to be respectful of classrooms, school and personal property each and every day.
Please review our BCHS PRIDE expectations in our Student/Parent Handbook . Taking time to show Jaguar PRIDE is important as we work toward our mission of providing “a safe learning environment with rigorous academic opportunities for all students to graduate as productive, responsible, and contributing citizens!”
