Principal's Message
Dear Sabre families,
We hope everyone had a nice Labour Day weekend!
Seeing our Sabres returning to school has been simply awesome. Starting with our registration days and leading into the first couple of days of classes, there has been a positive vibe and energy.
We understand there will be an adjustment period for our Grade 10 students and new students coming to SAL. We know that some students will feel comfortable sooner than others in their new surroundings. Hence, we will continue to be intentional this week with our students in our communication in each classroom leading into Grade Level Assemblies next week.
We also understand that coming into high school can be overwhelming at times for our families and caregivers. Should you have any questions and/or would like to schedule a meeting with the administration, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Before we move into this week, a couple of kudos from this past one. A big shoutout to our Grade 11 and 12 students for their leadership in welcoming our Grade 10’s and helping them navigate their new ‘digs’ and helping them find classes. Furthermore, to our leadership team of students led by Mrs. Curran, Mr. Latte, and Mrs. Tomkow for their planning and execution on a fun-filled first day culminating in a school-wide barbecue.
This week, we will continue to establish routine and get settled into the year.
Grade 10 students had their student photo taken on August 28, but for any Grade 10 who missed photos on that day, our pick-up date is September 27, 2023. Our Grade 11 and 12 students will have their photos taken on September 18 and 19, 2023.
A reminder that this Wednesday our students will be dismissed at 2:20 p.m. for our scheduled staff meeting. For our new students and families at SAL, every Wednesday students are dismissed at 2:20 p.m. for what we call ‘Opportunity Wednesday’s’. Stay tuned for more information in next week’s edition of the Scene for the opportunities students can take advantage of.
Also, our Cafeteria and Wellness Center will be open for all students beginning the week of September 11, 2023.
Our first School Council Meeting will be on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 in the Upper Library at 6:30 p.m.
Have a good week everyone. Again, please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
