LPS elementary school students joined their peers across the country in celebrating the joy of reading as part of Read Across America festivities last week. Schoolwide activities included guest readers, dress-up days, special projects and more. At various times, students were encouraged to participate in “reading trains” and to “Stop, Drop & Read” which led to them finding interesting places to indulge their love of books!

Board of Education Meeting: March 8, 2022 at 7 p.m.

The Livingston Board of Education will hold a public meeting tonight, Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at 7 p.m. The agenda includes an introduction of the 2022 budget and a discussion on the 2023-2024 Academic Calendar.

Tonight's meeting will be held in a hybrid format during which participants will have the ability to ask questions and make comments either in person or via the webinar. Those who register to attend in person will be notified of their registration status by email. Register for the webinar using the link below. The meeting will also be livestreamed on the district's Facebook page, @LivSchools.

Mt. Pleasant Elementary School recently held its first Spelling Bee!

Twelve students in grades 3-5 advanced to the final round which was held on February 16, 2022. Students, staff and family members attended the event which ended with Kevin Rao (4th grade) and Dorthy Chen (3rd grade) as the two top finalists. Erem Yalt (4th grade) came in second place. The two top finalists will be competing in the Essex County Spelling Bee on March 31, 2022.

Said Principal Dr. Lorena Dolan, "Our MPE Lions have worked very hard to learn challenging words. With the help of the MPE PTA, it was an exciting event for all!"

INTERNATIONAL SEL DAY IS MARCH 11!

Livingston Public Schools is proud to participate in International Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Day on March 11, 2022! SEL is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions. IN-DISTRICT COVID-19 TESTING

COVID-19 testing is available to LPS staff, students and families every Tuesday from 3:30-5:30 p.m. The District is partnering with BacktoWork Solutions for the testing. Click here to register for a quick Telemed Evaluation. Following the Telemed Evaluation you will be invited to schedule your COVID test, which takes place at the Riker Hill Media Center.

LHS PRESENTS SPRING MUSICAL!

Livingston High School Theatre will present Fiddler on the Roof on March 17, 18 and 19!

Set in the little village of Anatevka, the story centers on Tevye, a poor milkman, and his five daughters. With the help of a colorful and tight-knit Jewish community, Tevye tries to protect his daughters and instill them with traditional values in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia.

Rich in historical and ethnic detail, its universal theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality and religion, leaving audiences crying tears of laughter, joy and sadness.

Lancer Wrestlers Earn Medals At State Tournament

Five members of the Lancer Wrestling Team advanced to the NJSIAA Individual State Tournament in Atlantic City this past weekend including Aidan Carmody, Shawn Quirk, Max Lee, Stratos Kantanas, and Eddie Padilla. Aidan Carmody and Stratos Kantanas both took sixth place in the State of New Jersey in their respective weight classes.Congratulations to the team! Read more HERE!

LPS STUDENTS STAR IN CTL SHOW

Live Theatre is BACK! Children's Theatre of Livingston (CTL) is excited to present A Year with Frog and Toad Kids, based on Arnold Lobels well loved books. This whimsical musical follows two great friends-the cheerful, popular Frog and the rather grumpy Toad through four fun filled seasons.

Two shows, at 12:30 and 3:00 PM, on Saturday March 12 and 13, come alive in this story about friendship and features thirty-five elementary actors. This one act show, is a perfect show for youngsters to enjoy and takes place at the Eastman Corporate Center, right here in town.

LPD JUNIOR POLICE ACADEMY

The Livingston Police Department will be offering its Junior Police Academy again this summer! The program, which is for students entering grades 6, 7 and 8, will be held from July 11-15, 2022. Activities include field trips, physical training, K-9 demonstrations, crime scene education, mock motor vehicle stops and more! View the flyer for more information.

AGE-FRIENDLY COMMUNITY INITIATIVE

The Township of Livingston is launching an initiative to address the needs of its older community members. As a first step, community leaders are conducting a community-wide survey to evaluate Livingston's current "age-friendliness."
