Community Update

Hello North Rockland Families,

It’s been an emotional and challenging week here in North Rockland. With heavy hearts, we mourn the loss of one of our Willow Grove Elementary School students, Michael Bosco. The fifth grader was involved in a serious car accident Tuesday evening. Michael was a bright light in our district and will be remembered by classmates and teachers as a diligent student and a gifted artist with a passion for volunteer work. Our sincere condolences and thoughts are with his family and friends.

As our school community processes this tragic news and copes with grief, the North Rockland Central School District will offer counseling and support services to all students and staff. Counselors will be accessible through Monday of next week for immediate assistance.

During difficult times, one thing we can always rely on here in North Rockland, is each other. Life is so very precious. Please know our student support teams are available to help. Do not hesitate to contact your child’s building principal, guidance counselor, psychologist, or social worker if your family is in need of additional support.

Family and Friends are invited to attend Visitation being held 2pm to 6pm Sunday, October 17, 2021 at Joseph W. Sorce Funeral Home, 728 West Nyack Rd, West Nyack, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10am, Monday, October 18, 2021 at St. Anthony’s Parish Church, 36 West Nyack Rd. Nanuet, NY 10954.

In an effort to accommodate parents and limit capacity in our schools, NRCSD is hosting Hybrid Parent Teacher Conferences. While we know face-to-face conversations are a better option for some parents, we also understand the convenience of a virtual conference is more desirable for some families. Parents will be able to choose how they want to schedule their P/T conferences either in person, via Google Meet, or through a phone conference. This will serve to offer parents the option that works best for them while also reducing the number of visitors in our buildings for this event.

It's National School Lunch Week (October 11-15)!

NRCSD would like to take this opportunity to thank our dedicated Food Service Team for the tasty meals, kindness, and smiles they serve our students each day. They always work diligently to provide breakfast and lunch to all our learners both in-person and remotely.

All our delicious meals are prepared fresh, then individually and safely packaged before being distributed with the utmost care. These meals keep our students healthy and focused for their busy days of learning, and we don’t know what we would do without them. Thank you for making sure our students receive nothing less than the best each day! Show your appreciation here.

The District is asking all our staff and students to participate in the annual campaign by wearing pink to school next Friday 10/22 to raise awareness about the impact of breast cancer. This year's Pink Out will be in honor of Michael Bosco who would dye his hair pink every year around this time in honor of his mother a breast cancer survivor.

Join us as we RISE together to help uplift women in need and remember a very special friend.

Toss It, Spin It, WIN IT!

Congratulations are in order for North Rockland High school's Color Guard who were awarded "Best Color Guard" during the USBands Invitational Competition in Bergenfield NJ over the weekend!

The team also placed 4th overall for their division A - Group I. NR Color Guard Captains Kiara Cheek and Katie Russo have done an amazing job leading the team to their well deserved victory this season. We are so proud of all these ladies!

Red Raider Football: The Varsity Football game vs. Arlington High School scheduled for October 15 has been moved to Saturday October 16 at 1:30PM at Arlington High School. LETS GO RED AND WHITE! Information for attending the game has been provided by the Arlington School District linked here.

Thursday, North Rockland High School students spent the day at Bowline Park in the Town of Haverstraw where they worked with Rockland County Soil & Water Conservation District staff to collect scientific data about the river.

Students caught, measured and released fish, were taught to track the river’s tides and examined water chemistry and quality.

Dozens of these events took place today as part of the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation's Day in the Life of the Hudson River Estuary Program.

Local innovation and initiative can help us understand how to protect our environment better. We are so proud of our students for getting involved in the District's mission to #GoGreen and keep our habitats clean this year!

***NRCSD continues to work tirelessly to ensure that all health and safety protocols are working effectively. It is incumbent upon each and every one of us to make sure all safety protocols are followed at all times—in and out of school— so we can mitigate the spread of COVID-19. We must work together in partnership—schools, families, and students—and be mindful of the great responsibility we all have to protect ourselves and those around us. This virus can be present without any symptoms. That fact alone can lead to the unintentional infection of others.
