MHCC Foundation Scholarship-Due March 31

If students plan to attend MHCC in the fall of 2023, this is the scholarship to do! There are multiple scholarships available to seniors with one online application. One is particularly great, the MHCC Foundation Scholarship, and is worth over $5300 to one Barlow student. Completing the application is a terrific way to enhance the benefits of the Oregon Promise, too.

Seniors, have you completed the two items needed to access your free Oregon Promise grant funds?

1. Complete the Oregon Promise application by June 1

2. Complete the FAFSA or ORSAA by June 1

Remember, seniors must have a 2.0 GPA or better and plan to attend an Oregon Community College in the fall. There is no second chance to go back later to apply for these funds.

Daniel Paul Scholarship-due Feb. 22

The Daniel Paul scholarship will be awarded to a 2023 graduating senior from SBHS. The scholarship will go to a student-athlete that has inspired and energized others. To learn more, go to www.danielpaulscholarship.org

Applicants must meet the following requirements and provide the listed materials:

Graduate from Barlow High School and college-bound
3.2 GPA or higher
Have participated in sports and athletics throughout their high school career
Be able to demonstrate active participation in student life and/or the community while in high school
Embody many of the traits and attributes of Daniel Paul, including but not limited to leadership, athleticism, inquisitiveness, inclusivity, relentlessness, kind, generous, adventurous, compassionate.

Last Chance to Take the ASVAB in 2022-23

The ASVAB is an in-depth career exploration tool. We offer juniors and seniors a chance to learn what their strengths are, and how to combine them with their interests, to find a career. The test is free, private, and allows a student to use the search tool for 2 years.

Pediatric Nursing Certification Board Diversity Scholarship-due Feb. 3

A core goal of PNCB's strategic plan is to cultivate a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community to support a growing pediatric nursing workforce. See a current demographic profile of certified pediatric nurses.
About this scholarship:
This scholarship supports the education of an undergraduate nursing student who:
- Identifies with an ethnic or culturally diverse background, racial diversity, gender diversity, disability, or otherwise a member of a historically marginalized community and
- Is pursuing a degree to become a registered nurse and
- Has a strong interest in pediatric nursing for their future.
Additional qualification criteria:
- Acceptance into or current part-time or full-time enrollment in an accredited undergraduate nursing program.
- Must have an expected graduation date within four years or less.
- Must be in good standing academically, GPA of 3.0 to 4.0 (based on a 4-point system).

Army Corps of Engineers Engineering Day Trip

Each year, during National Engineers Week, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Portland District, hosts high school students from around the Portland metro area for a day of hands-on engineering activities.

As the first in-person event hosted by Portland District since the pandemic, we look forward to having a fun, engaging, and social event. Students will spend the day learning about various engineering disciplines and other related professions.

Forecasting with Careers in Mind

We are entering the Forecasting Season: therefore, if students are considering a lucrative career in construction or metals manufacturing students should forecast classes for 23/24 by considering the following:

Sam Barlow High School offers a FAST (Future Apprentice Student in the Trades) Track Pre-Apprenticeship program for Juniors and Seniors. Completing the FAST Track program will help save a student years of waiting to get into an apprenticeship.

Students who qualify for the FAST Track Program must have:

Completed Integrated 1 Math with a C grade or better
Completed 1 year of Woods or Metals classes with a C grade or better
AND students must complete Integrated Math 2 and a second year of Woods or Metals by the end of their senior year.

Construction or Manufacturing Trade Scholarship

If you are accepted into an apprenticeship or learn trade skills at a local community college, you have the Don Adamas Memorial Scholarship available. FBI Summer Teen Academy

The FBI Portland division is now accepting applications for the July 11th to the 14th, 2023 Summer Teen Academy. This academy provides a unique opportunity for motivated high school students to develop leadership skills by engaging them in team-building experiences, exposing them to careers in law enforcement, and encouraging them to communicate and collaborate across cultures.
