The “Owlet” Digital Student Newspaper
I am proud to announce the launching of the school’s first edition of the Owlet, a digital newspaper produced and published by students at the school! The content for the Owlet is generated by the students of Oakview Elementary. Third, fourth, and fifth grade students brainstormed ideas, conducted interviews, and wrote the stories (with a little help from advisors Mrs. Breitmeier, Mrs. Haarsgaard, Ms. McKamy, Mrs. Gwendolyn Brown, and Mrs. Thompson). Special thanks to Mrs. Timberlake, Mrs. Wheeler-Hawkins, Mrs. Owens and Ms. Angelo! A very special thank you to our journalist mentor, Katie Jones. You won’t want to miss this inaugural edition! PTA President's Report - Jean Scott
Happy holidays! December is a short school month, but it is brimming with opportunities to celebrate the season. Thank you to Missy Lawlor for coordinating the Jingle Bell Drop, in which Oakview families donated new and gently-used toys to benefit the Salvation Army and the Greenville Human Relations Commission. Later this month, your students will have the chance to purchase gifts for loved ones at our Elf Shelf Holiday Store. And I hope you all will join us tonight for our General Membership Meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the cafetorium, followed by the chorus concert.
Reflections
Congratulations to the Oakview Reflections Art Contest winners. This national PTA contest provides a great opportunity for our students to shine artistically. The Oakview winners will now compete in the state competition, and possibly the national competition.

Elf Shelf, December 16 - 19
The holiday season is quickly approaching and so is the opening of the Elf Shelf Holiday Store, December 16-19. The Elf Shelf is an opportunity for your child to shop and purchase gifts for loved ones; while not an obligation, it is a fun way for students to participate in the season of giving. Be on the lookout for more information and volunteer opportunities! If you have further questions, please contact Joy Cutter at joycutter@gmail.com or Sarah Purcer at sarah.purcer@gmail.com.
Children's Book Drive
The Children’s Book Drive Donation will be here before we know it! Mark your calendars for the week of February 9 – 13, 2015!
Help reading grow by saving your gently used or new children’s books over the holidays. The Book Drive recipients are the Golden Strip Early Childhood Center and our own Oakview Community! The more we participate, the more books our children have to use in the classrooms. Thank you in advance for helping make this Book Drive a huge success!
If you have any questions, please contact Mary-Claire Busby, Children’s Book Drive Chair, at maryclairebusby@yahoo.com.
