Superintendent Newsletter
April 20
April 27, 2023
Greetings Hinton Families,
We are coming down the home stretch, and a lot is happening around the district. The last day for students is May 26th, and we will have a two-hour early dismissal that day.
Facilities Planning:
Our Community Advisory Facilities Team has one more meeting before they make recommendations to the board on facility improvements. The team is currently completing their surveys for their priorities. On May 2nd, they will meet again to develop a consensus and develop a presentation for the board. We appreciate the commitment the committee has made to assist in this process.
Check out the latest action the school board is in the process of doing by reading this press release. To stay current on the district's facility planning process, please check out the following link:

Calendar:
Below is the district calendar the board approved at the April meeting. It is similar to this year's calendar, except we added some possible makeup days for snow days. The first day of school will be Wednesday, August 23rd, and the last day will be May 22nd, 2024. An expected legislative bill to be signed by the Governor will allow schools to use up to 30 hours or five days to make up for missed school time due to inclement weather. The legislative change could alleviate some of the added days in the end.

What excites you about being at Hinton?
What excites me most about being at Hinton is the community. I had the opportunity to complete field experience hours for my teaching program at Hinton, and both the staff and students were incredibly welcoming--it was an environment I truly enjoyed being in. Furthermore, it was clear how dedicated the staff at Hinton are, and I am so excited to work alongside them.

I love reading, board games, and travel. My husband and I have a goal to see every US national park--we will be seeing park number twenty this summer! I am almost always listening to music (with a high likelihood that it is Taylor Swift), and bake frequently.

C60 Construction
Plymouth County sent out some road construction/closure information and unfortunately, it is starting before the end of the school year. I have included a link that shows what will be affected. https://www.iceasb.org/roads/county/plymouth/63825. Janet Held has sent out information to the families who will be affected with busing issues. Three of our routes will see a change.
The detour will start on May 8th.
Radon Testing Results:
In February, our PK-3 Elementary building was tested for Radon as part of the new requirements required by Iowa law. We are able to report that we will not have to do any mitigation at the school as the levels of Radon reported were below the level needed for meditigation.
Next year, we will be testing our Middle School/High School in February as part of our Radon Mitigation plan. Each building must be tested every five years according to Iowa law.
