Your PE teachers:
Melissa Hubauer- Hi parents! My name is Melissa Hubauer. This is my third year at Bluff Park and my 12th teaching year overall. I have a bachelor’s degree from The University of Alabama in Physical Education, a Master’s Degree in ESL from UAB, and an Instructional Leadership Certificate from Jacksonville State. I love teaching your precious students and planning the big events for the PE program. I can’t wait to see what this school year will bring!
Kivon Coman- I’m Coach Coman and I will be one of the PE teachers here at Bluff Park Elementary. I’ve taught for the last 5 years in Florence, Alabama, 2 years in Special Education and 3 years in PE. I’m a graduate of Mississippi State University and Athens State University. I teach children to enjoy movement and build skills that are a foundation for healthy and active lifestyles. I am so excited for this upcoming school year!
Welcome back!! We are so excited to start the new school year! We have some very fun lessons, activities, and events planned for your student(s). Please feel free to email Mrs. Hubauer (mhubauer@hoover.k12.al.us) or Coach Coman (kcoman@hoover.k12.al.us) if you have any questions throughout the year. This is the best way to contact us as we are not in our office or by the phone throughout the day.
Looking Forward: 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will participate in Roller Skating this year. This will start on Nov. 29th. Permissions slips will be sent home on Parent Night. If you are unable to attend Parent Night, then a permission slip will be sent home with your student. It costs $12 to participate and will be available to pay on MySchoolFees on Oct. 2.
PTA
We had a great first PTA meeting this past week! We enjoyed seeing everybody and loved meeting new parents. It is going to be a great year!
We are currently looking to fill Committees within the PTA. Committees are a great way to get involved and meet new people. Committees have a variety of time commitments and often present opportunities to volunteer outside of school hours as well.
Committee help needed:
Hospitality Committee
Diversity Committee
Walk/Bike to School Committee
Panther Prowl Committee
Field Day Committee
Outdoor Social Committee
Celebration Committee
Fall/Spring Outdoor Classroom Committee
Volunteer Committee (GroupMe)
Please email us at: bluffparkpta@gmail.com to sign up. We are always so thankful for parents being involved with the PTA and helping make Bluff Park so great!
Upcoming Dates:
Spirit Day- 8/26 Bluff Park Ice Cream Shoppe. Stop in anytime between 12-9 pm and a portion of sales will go back to BPES!

Birthday Parties and Lunchroom
Birthday Parties - Party invitations can only be given out at school if the entire class is invited. It really hurts feelings if students are not included. Invitations for small parties should be mailed from home. Due to state regulations regarding nutrition, we are no longer allowed to let parents/guardians bring or send in food to celebrate a student’s birthday. We encourage you to take advantage of the ice cream or healthy snacks sold in the cafeteria. These can be purchased for the class.
Celebrations-Each classroom will be encouraged to limit class parties to no more than 2 per school year. Celebrations that are tied into the curriculum will not count towards these exempt allowances.
Lunchroom - We love lunch guests! It is always a treat for students to have someone special enjoy lunch with them. We only have a few rules to be followed regarding lunch. Lunch visitors must sign in at the office and get a lunchroom pass. No fast food or carbonated drinks are allowed in the
cafeteria, and we ask that all good-byes be said at the lunchroom rather than in the classroom or the hall. (It is easier on our students if everyone leaves the lunchroom at the same time.)
Lunchroom visitors for any student must be listed on the students PowerSchool contact list. If you have a family member coming in from out of town who is not listed, please send an email to nswiney@hoover.k12.al.us ahead of time.

Leave a Legacy Project
We love our school, and we love our people! Our goal this year is to showcase every beautiful face that graces our halls. Each classroom will have a gallery wall outside of the classroom. Every child in the classroom will be showcased in the gallery. You can see an example of this on the wall prior to arriving at Nurse Melanie’s office. We will need your assistance to help us create these masterpieces. A fund has been created on MySchoolFees titled “The Leave a Legacy Fund.” If you would like to contribute to this fund, we would greatly appreciate it! These photos will be taken by a professional photographer, and the best part is that it will be yours to keep at the end of the school year! Please feel free to donate what is comfortable for your family. Thank You!
