SCS Community Newsletter
Week of November 20, 2023
Principals' Message
Dear SCS Families and Caregivers,
We hope you all enjoy a restful week off. Students and staff members are going to need it after all the excitement at school this week! We had a fantastic spirit week with some impressive choices for "anything but a backpack" day today, a school-wide trivia competition led by our PBIS committee, staff pot lucks, many team-based celebrations, and countless smiles. In conjunction with the food drives, fall chorus and band concert, and four field trips, it made for quite a week.
We'll be taking time over the coming break to reflect on and appreciate the countless ways in which the SCS community takes care of each other. We're so thankful to be part of it, and we look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Monday, November 27.
Take care,
Alison, Brett, & Emily

SCS Announcements
SPIRIT WEEK WAS SO FUN WE'RE DOING IT AGAIN!
Monday, 11/27 come back to school dressed "matchy matchy."
School Wide Celebration: Trivia
Thank you to Pete Boardman & Tim O'Leary for leading our school-wide celebration this morning - the students had so much fun answering trivia questions in a call-in-contest! Congratulations to the following classes for winning a $25 Amazon gift card that they can decide how to use: Allen, Badillo, Cadwell, Gramer, Kareckas, Nakleh & West.
THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING THE PTO FALL FUNDRAISER
Thank you, SCS community, for making our Fall Fundraiser a success! Once all of our accounting is complete, we'll be able to distribute over $6,000 to classroom teams for teachers to spend on special events, field trips, classroom needs, etc!
Our last step will be to deliver the orders of local products and spirit wear to those who purchased them, and we're looking for volunteers to help! The details and sign up form are linked here.
Lost & Found
Please be sure to check out the items in our Lost & Found to claim your child's/children's clothing. Items can be viewed in this photo gallery.
The items will be on display in the SCS breezeway beginning this afternoon, through the break, so please come by and claim your belongings. Huge thanks to Michelle Paskevich & Julia Snapp for coordinating this.
Thank you for your help in getting these items back to their home.
No Idling Please
This is Blue Team SLC (Student Leadership Council). We are doing a project to stop idling on school property because we want a clean and healthy environment for everyone. We have put out no idling signs to make our point but we are still seeing idling in the drop off and pick up line as well as the parking spaces by Davis Park and in the gym parking lot. All we are trying to do is make our school, community and world a better place while helping to enforce a school policy. Let this be a reminder to all SCS caretakers to turn off your car to help create a better, safer, cleaner environment.
SCS Directory
The 2023-24 SCS Directory was sent home in backpacks today. For families with more than one student at SCS, one copy was sent home with the youngest student. If your child has multiple households and you would like a second copy, please contact Jen Marx.
If your family would like to purchase an additional directory, they are available at the main office for $5.
Many thanks to Amanda Broder and her team of volunteers in the PTO for creating the directory.
SCS Angel Fund - help support students and families at SCS
Angel Fund assists families at SCS with children’s clothing, food, school supplies, and items
needed to participate in school-sponsored activities. The fund distributes $20,000 or more of
goods or services in a single year and needs are increasing. Learn more about the fund here.
How to Donate?
Checks are payable to Shelburne Community School. In the memo line write “Angel Fund”.
Please mail to the school at 345 Harbor Road Shelburne, VT 05482. The PTO can receive funds via Venmo at Venmo.com/scspto. Or PayPal at PayPal.me/scspto. Please be sure to write “Angel” in the subject when sending digitally.
Pet Drive - Donate to the Chittenden County Humane Society!
The 7th grade/8th grade SLC (Student Leadership Council) has organized a Pet Food & Supply Drive that anyone can donate to! All of these boxes will be collected and donated to the Chittenden County Humane Society shortly after the Snow Ball Dance on December 15, so be sure to donate before then! We are accepting the following items:
- Wet puppy food
- Dry cat food
- Unscented, non-clumping kitty litter
- Clean straw
- Long-lasting chew treats- no rawhide please!
- Kitten food
- Kong spray or spray cheese
- Tough, durable dog toys
- Cubes and Busy Balls
Please do not put any items in these boxes that are not on this list, as the Humane Society may not accept them, and be reasonable with how you choose to donate. (For example, any pet foods should be in airtight containers if not in their original packaging, and anything else that could be messy should also be safely contained.)
