Spring Term - 25th January 2024
Message from the Head of School
Dear Parents/Carers
The times tables competition is in full swing and the children have been taking part in the first round this week within school. Each child will have the chance to demonstrate their times tables knowledge using the TTRockStars platform. With times tables being such an important skill, at the heart of much of the Maths curriculum, we would remind parents to encourage children to practise at home and apply their skills whenever possible. The final will be held on Monday 19th February with medals and trophies up for grabs!
This term we have over 20 clubs running both after school and at lunch time. With such a variety, please ensure your child is clear about which club they are attending and on which days. This avoids any confusion and ensures your child gets the most out of these sessions. With many of these clubs being sport related, we have updated our school uniform policy which now states that if a pupil wears a base layer under their PE kit, this must be either black or white. The school uniform policy is attached. Please take a moment to read this as it includes information about uniform, jewellery, footwear and make-up.
Year 5 and 6 had an amazing visit from author Benjamin Dean this week who helped the pupils conjure up a descriptive piece of writing about a story setting of their choice. It was a brilliant assembly which the pupils were very much inspired by. A huge thank you to Miss Smith for organising this event.
Next week we have an exciting workshop for all to take part in. Karma Kids will be coming into school to provide a cross-fit session. They are an organisation who create an energy fuelled environment to encourage and inspire young athletes.
I hope you and your family have a lovely weekend.
Mr J James

To enter you should take a photo of you reading in ‘extreme’ locations (please see the poster for some ideas) and then upload them to your Google Classroom by Monday 19th February. The winners will be announced Wednesday 21st February, the vouchers will be able to be used the following week.
Happy extreme reading!
Year 3 News
This was our first lesson using Chromebooks to access questions during maths. The children were learning to use formal written methods for multiplying and they worked extremely hard! The year 3 teachers are very proud of the children working sensibly whilst using technology during their lessons.
This week year 3 have been creating colour washes in art, applying their knowledge of colour mixing to create watercolour backgrounds for their Egyptian amulet drawings. We had lots of fun learning about the symbols and creating our pieces of art.
Year 6 News
6GF have worked extremely hard the past week creating their bridges. We have learnt about a variety of designs including: truss bridges, beam bridges and suspension bridges. Well done to all!
Yr5 and Yr6 Author Visit
Year 5 and 6 enjoyed a visit from author Benjamin Dean this Tuesday where some of our pupils were lucky enough to meet and have a copy of his brand new book signed (which only came out on shelves last week!). Then, they had a lovely assembly with Benjamin where they got their creative and imaginative minds flowing creating a character, setting, hero and villain for their own ideas for a book. I hope this may have inspired pupils to pursue their ideas even further!
