Middle School Drama Club
Itβs almost show time at the Middle School!
The curtain goes up for Roald Dahlβs βJames and the Giant Peach Jr.β on Thursday, Nov. 16 at 7 pm for the first of three showings at the Middle School Auditorium. Additional performances are scheduled for Friday, Nov. 17 (7 pm) and Saturday, Nov. 18 (1 pm).
More than 20 Middle School students have been rehearsing regularly to prepare for their big weekend onstage and even more are doing work behind the scenes to paint sets, design bug puppets and work with lighting and sound.
Tickets are $5 for each show and can be purchased digitally using the QR code above this notice.
1,243 Pairs Collected for Open Door Mission
Middle School Student Congress would like to express its sincere thanks to the entire Gananda Middle School and community for setting a "Socktober" record by collecting 1,243 pairs of socks for the Open Door Mission. This year's total crushed the previous total of 747 pairs.
Having met our goal of 600 or more pairs, Mr. Butt will be wearing Buffalo Bills gear for the entire month of November. A special thanks goes out to Macβs Pizza Shack for donating 400 pairs of socks. GO BILLS!
Girls swimming
Congratulations to the Gananda/Wayne girls swim team, which finished in sixth place at the Section V Class B championships on Saturday at Webster.
Sydney Richards won the 100 breaststroke for a second straight year while the 200 free relay team (Emma Catalano, Sydney Richards, Natalie Schwandt, Haley Conner) and the 200 medley relay team (Emma Catalano, Sydney Richards, Natalie Schwandt, Haley Conner) each finished second. And in the 50 free, Haley Conner finished third.
Shout to to coach Dani Richards as well for being named the Section V Class B Coach of the Year after being named Finger Lakes League Coach of the Year last week.
XC Championships
Congratulations to Gananda senior Meah Prutzman, who finished her 2023 cross country season by finishing 14th in the Section V Class D girls championship race at Letchworth State Park on Saturday.
Football
The 2023 season came to an end for the East Rochester/Gananda football team last Friday night. The Bombers advanced to the Section V Class C semifinals as the No. 4 seed but lost Fridayβs semifinal game against No. 1 Le Roy.
ER/Gananda ends its season with a 7-3 record and Le Roy will play No. 2 Attica/Alexander in Saturdayβs championship at SUNY Brockport.
3-v-3 Tourney on Nov. 25; Bottle/Can Drive at New Location
The Gananda girls basketball program is hosting the Turkey Jam, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament on Saturday, Nov. 25.
The event is open to boys and girls in grades 3 to 8 in all districts. The double-elimination event guarantees at least three games with prizes awarded to the top teams in each division. Cost for each four-person team is $40 and teams must register by Nov. 20.

The program also is hosting a can/bottle drive on Saturday, Nov. 18, at the high school bus loop.
5th Annual Alumni Association Event
It's that time of year again and the Alumni Association's 5th annual One-Stop Holiday Shop is all set for Saturday, Nov. 18.
The event at the Richard Mann Elementary School is open from 11 am to 3 pm and will feature vendors, crafters, raffles* and snacks, including Tom's Traveling Coffee Truck and the Kona Ice Truck. Stop in to get some shopping done and support the students and the community!
*-Raffle donations will benefit the Gananda Sports Boosters and the Coach Morabito Scholarship fund.
A Closer Look at Attendance
How important is attendance at school?
Very! Ganandaβs Multi-Tiered Support System is encouraging strong attendance, which is often based in positive habits that start at home. Regular bedtimes and morning routines play a big role, but itβs also important to have a backup plan for things like transportation to and from school. Healthy eating and open discussions about concerns also help.
Missing just 2 days per month can limit reading progress and have an affect on the rest of the class as well.
At Gananda, 82% of our PK-12 students are βon trackβ with attendance this school year, which means theyβve been present for at least 90% of the total school days so far for 2023-24.
National Honor Society Students Offer Help
National Honor Society students are now offering tutoring help for any high school students looking for help in science and/or writing. We will be offering tutoring both during advisement and after school on certain days.
All tutoring will be held in room 131. Students can use this Google form to sign up. It is not necessary to sign up, but it will help to ensure we have the right students and enough students available to help.
'Tis the Season
Now is the time to be vigilant with the risk of RSV increasing, especially for children, as seasonal temperatures cool off.
Typical symptoms include a runny nose and fever but children who are infected for the first time may also develop a cough and/or wheezing. Infants younger than 6 months may develop sleep apnea.
Most children with RSV can recover from home, but pay close attention to breathing patterns. Any child who has difficulty breathing should be taken to a hospital.
Prevention through good hygiene, like washing hands frequently, is recommended.
