What's Up At The Nest...
Principal's Message
It was a busy week at the nest! Our 4th graders explored band instruments, our former OMS owls returned to walk the halls before their high school graduations, we wore pajamas, read books, and learned about and from author Candace Fleming.
With all that has been happening, we forgot a VERY IMPORTANT THANK YOU to you, the OMS community and PTA chairs for all that you did for us for staff appreciation week! Our teachers shared our thanks at the last PTA meeting but we wanted everyone to know how grateful we are for the many ways that you celebrated us. It was a wonderful week of goodies, some of which we are still enjoying from the stock the lounge day.
I would also like to thank families for sending me emails on Principal Appreciation Day. My inbox was flooded and I have not yet had a chance to respond to each of you. Thank you for all of your support over the past several years!
Next week will be another very busy week. We have several grades taking field trips and on THURSDAY, MAY 26th students will participate in field day activities.
We would also like to clarify that we have school IN PERSON on June 3rd. Our ABC countdown says to zoom (to move or travel quickly) home NOT Zoom meetings from home!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Erin, Julia, and the OMS staff
Author Candace Fleming's Visit
The students were so engaged with author Candace Fleming’s visit this week! They were fascinated with stories of how she researches her nonfiction books and how she gathers “seeds” of ideas for her fiction books. We heard how she had an opportunity to try on a lucky bracelet that was worn by Amelia Earhart and how her friend video-recorded giant squid in the deep ocean. Ms. Fleming encouraged students to be curious and to seek out information about what interests them. As a special treat, Ms. Fleming visited Ms. Tinaglia’s fourth grade class for a writing workshop lesson.
To read more about the visit and see more photos, please visit the LMC website.
*All classrooms were entered into the raffle to win the special classroom visit.
Bike Riders
Please review with your child when arriving to school in the morning bikes should be parked closest to the fence and work outwards. Students who arrive later have a very difficult time maneuvering their bike into an open spot when other bikes are parked on the outside. Thank you in advance for helping to make room for all of our students' bikes.
