Students are supported to complete their schoolwork learning in a supervised setting. Faculty and staff are available along with upper-class peer tutors (especially skilled in Mathematics). BOYS HOCKEY
Lightning Drop Heartbreaker to Lakers, Recover Against Chaska
Eastview’s boys varsity hockey team lost to Prior Lake 2-1 on Saturday, January 27, dropping the Lightning into a second-place tie with the Lakers in the South Suburban Conference at 9-3. On Monday, January 29, the Lightning returned to the win column with a 5-1 victory over Chaska.
The Lightning managed only one goal against the Lakers, a bomb from the right point by Freshman Defenseman Austin Dwyer at 13:31 of the second period. But the Lakers took advantage of a power-play goal late in the second period and scored an even-strength goal late in the third to steal the win.
Things went better for the Lightning in Chaska, where Sophomore Forward Sam Wooten notched a hat trick to lead the scoring. Senior Forwards Zach Wooten and Michael Cherevatsky added goals for Eastview as the Lightning outshot Chaska 49-18. With less than three minutes to go in the game, Senior Forwards Jordan Brothers and Zach Wooten patiently worked the puck around to Sam Wooten, who scored at close range to complete his hat trick and make the final 5-1. Senior Goalie Kaden Goff earned his second win of the season. The Lightning play Mounds View at the Apple Valley Sports Arena on Tuesday, January 30, and return to conference play against Rosemount on Tuesday, February 6.
Lightning Overpower Farmington to Extend Conference Win Streak to Five
Senior Forward Jordan Brothers had the hat trick and Senior Goalie Caden Goff earned his first win of the season as the Eastview boys varsity hockey team beat Farmington 7-1 on Tuesday, January 23. Brothers scored in the first minute of play, skating the puck from the right wall to the left circle where he found a clear shooting lane. Less than a minute later, Senior Forward Billy Downs found Sophomore Forward Sam Wooten with a pass that Wooten netted for a 2-0 lead. Senior Forward Zach Wooten then scored close-in on a pass from Sam Wooten. Eastview went up 4-0 when Brothers scored a power play goal, assisted by the Wooten brothers. In the second period, Zach Wooten scored his second goal of the night on a deft deflection that put the Lightning up 5-0. After Farmington scored its only goal of the night, Brothers scored from close range to complete the hat trick and put Eastview up 6-1. Senior Forward Jaymeson Zachery completed the scoring when he tapped in a rebound off a blast from the point by Senior Defenseman Brayden Kaldenbach. The Lightning continue conference play on Saturday against Prior Lake at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 27 at the Apple Valley Ice Center.
The JV Boys Hockey Team beat Farmington in an exciting game last Tuesday night (1/23). Farmington got on the board first, but Eastview tied it up with an unassisted goal from Cameron Dufault. With 2 minutes left in the 1st period, Liam O’Donnell scored another unassisted goal and Eastview went ahead 2 to 1. Farmington tied it up in the 3rd period to force overtime. Cole Hille got the 3rd unassisted goal with 26 seconds left in overtime to win the game. Ty Young was in net and had 28 saves.
On Saturday, Eastview faced a physical Prior Lake team. The Lakers drew several penalties throughout the game and capitalized on the power plays. Zach Wakefield was in net and faced 49 shots (several of them while Eastview was short-handed). Eastview got the scoring started first with just over a minute left in the 1st period when Cole Hille scored with assists from Jack Slominski and Cal Fritche. Prior Lake scored 3 power play goals to end the 2nd period, 3 to 1. Cal Fritche got Eastview’s 2nd goal of the game in the 3rd period with an assist from Cole Hille. The Lakers then went on to score 4 goals (a combination of full strength and power play goals) leading to Prior Lake’s 2 to 8 win.
On a rare Monday night game, the Boys Hockey Team headed to Chaska to face the Hawks. Chaska got out to a quick lead however, that would be the only time they led. At the start of the 2nd period, Cole Hille scored an unassisted goal to tie up the game. Wesley Schoenwetter scored Eastview’s second goal with assists from Kyle Benolkin and Mason Gillis. Eastview also scored a short-handed goal from Liam O’Donnell. Unfortunately, it was difficult to make out who got the assists on that goal. Chaska scored again to make it 3 to 2 at the end of the 2nd period. In the 3rd period, Liam O'Donnell got his 2nd goal of the night with an assist by Austin Dwyer. The JV Boys won the game with a score of 4 to 2. Due to strong defense, Ty Young faced only 14 shots. The JV Boys also had a strong offensive game with their highest shots on goal (48) of the season. The Boys Hockey Team plays again tonight against Mounds View. Game time for JV is 5pm at the Apple Valley Sports Arena.
Eastview Girls Varsity Hockey
On Saturday, January 20th, the Lightning had another nice win beating Eagan 4-1. Eastview was able to get two power play goals in the first period to take a 2-0 lead. The first goal was scored by Erin Hayward assisted by Sari Cords and Ella Schaefer. The second was scored by Sari Cords assisted by Erin Hayward and Ella Schaefer. The Lightning were able to score two more goals in the second period to go up 4-0. The third goal was scored by Sari Cords assisted by Erin Hayward and Meredith Droege and the final Eastview goal was scored by Brielle Clardy assisted by Ireland Murphy and Brynn Dihel. Eagan was able to put one goal away in the third to round out the scoring. Lila Hanson was strong in net again saving 24 of 25 shots.
Thursday night was Senior night for the Eastview Girls Hockey Team. The team took time to honor their seven seniors who will be greatly missed next season.
Eastview’s seniors include:
Senior Forward Brynn Dihel
Senior Defense Meredith Droege
Senior Defense Ellie Groebner
Senior Goalie Lila Hanson
Senior Forward Erin Hayward
Senior Manager Ava Gross
Senior Manager Sydney Jagow
The Lightning were unable to pull off a win for the seniors losing a close game in overtime to Farmington 2-1. Farmington started the scoring three minutes into the game to take a 1-0 lead but Eastview was able to tie it up 1-1 four minutes later on a power play goal by Ellie Groebner assisted by Jaden Slominski. Both goalies played strong the rest of the game with no goals allowed sending the game to overtime. Unfortunately, overtime did not last long with Farmington scoring 21 seconds in for the 2-1 lead. Lila Hanson made 25 of 27 saves in the game.
Eastview got a win on Saturday, January 27th, beating Prior Lake 3-1. Prior Lake jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first period, but Brynn Dihel was able to score in the second, assisted by Jaden Slominski, to tie it up 1-1 heading into the third. One minute into the third period, Brynn Dihel scored her second goal of the night, assisted by Brielle Clardy, to put the Lightning up 2-1. Sari Cords was able to complete the scoring with an empty net goal, assisted by Ellie Groebner and Lila Hanson. Lila Hanson saved 28 of 29 shots in the game.
The Lightning have their last regular season game this Thursday against Lakeville South at 7pm at Lakeville Hasse Arena and will have their first playoff game on Wednesday, February 7th.

ARTS, ACTIVITIES & CLUBS
New: Emory Speech Tournament Results
This weekend, five members of our speech team competed at the 69th Annual Barkley Forum for High Schools at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. This national level speech and debate tournament hosted almost 200 schools from 30 different states and Taiwan. Though our team was small, it was mighty: every single Eastview speaker reached the final round of competition in at least one event, and two individuals reach the final round of two different events.
In Duo Interpretation, Eastview claimed the top two spots in the entire tournament - congratulations to Arkhya Arikkath and Max Espena for being named tournament champions in Duo Interpretation, and to Neal Rajvansh and Monisha Suresh for being named runners-up! Eastview's two Duo entries were tied for first in the final round, with final placement only determined by a close tiebreaker.
In Humorous Interpretation, Eastview again had two entries make the final round - and both of those participants were double-event finalists! Congratulations to Arkhya Arikkath for placing 4th (along with her finals championship in Duo), and to Sahiti Atluri for placing 5th. In Dramatic Interpretation, Sahiti Atluri had her second final round performance, again placing 5th, and Monisha Suresh finished as a quarterfinalist (in addition to her Duo finish).
Congratulations to the entire group representing Eastview Speech in Atlanta! After a few weeks of competition at home, our next national event for traveling speakers will be the Harvard Speech and Debate Tournament in Cambridge, Massachusetts over President's Day Weekend.
