VALUE of the MONTH: Respect
Principal's Message
Dear SGB Families,
This week's message has a ton of info! Please feel free to print and revisit throughout the week.
Thank you to all the SGB Families who were able to come and support us at the Marian Shrine and the SGB Parish Picnic! It was wonderful to see you. Our school is as strong as the community we build together. Let's keep that going all year long!
If you'd like to scroll past my weekly story...feel free to read at another time!
💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛
This weekend was jam-packed with family activities in our house, but it started with a beautiful wedding on Friday evening. While it felt like a destination wedding to Seattle with all the rain we've been getting, it was still a perfect celebration.
The mother of the bride, Lisa, is my son's godmother. She is one of those friends who has become family over the course of the last 20 years. We first met when I had a theater company called Stage Right and cast her daughter, Samantha (the bride) in the role of Audrey in "Little Shop of Horrors" when she was about ten. Samantha had an incredibly powerful and beautiful voice, but this was the first time everyone (family included) got a chance to hear it.
I had no idea how important that experience was until her Dad, Steve, made his toast on Friday night at the reception. He mentioned Samantha being Audrey and working with me all those years ago. (Of course, I got tears and chills that this was even a blip on his radar on one of the most important nights of his daughter's life). But it wasn't because of her performance.
Steve wanted to share who Samantha is...who she has been for her entire life. He told of how during that experience, Samantha took care of her cast mates. If they forgot a line, she helped them. If they needed to practice a dance routine, she was in the hallway going over it. She was a team player. She was there for them. To help.
She had their back and now...she would have her husband's for the rest of her life.
Not everyone understands how blessed we are to work with children every day. To see them grow and nurture their talents. We get to guide and encourage them to be the best they can be.
While Samantha is beautiful, smart, successful and wicked talented...those weren't the qualities her Dad focused on. He wanted to be clear that out of all those great traits, it was the fact that she will be the best partner.
We need to take time to celebrate those qualities. Being a good friend. Taking care of each other.
At the end, THOSE are what matter most.
Have a wonderful week!
God bless,
Ms. Clarke
