WHS Celebrates Groundbreaking for New Gymnasium
On January 18, Walnut High School held its groundbreaking ceremony for its new gymnasium. The new 15,700-square-foot gymnasium will feature full-size basketball, badminton, and volleyball practice courts, a scoreboard, bleachers, and a weight room.
Walnut Valley USD’s modernization and construction projects are made possible through voter approval of Bond Measure WV, passed in November 2016. The construction of the building designed by HMC Architects commenced on October 10, 2022, with a duration of 425 days. Completion is slated for January 2024.
The new gym building will be located on the north side of campus across from the existing gymnasium.

Reporting Full Day Absences and Tardies Over 30 Mins
Students will be subject to disciplinary action when a student has been absent from class without a valid excuse. All absences must be cleared within one (1) school day after the last date of absence. The preferred method for clearing absences is via parent/guardian phone calls to the attendance office.
Parents must call the attendance office the day their student is absent as early as possible or within two school days of an absence, at the latest. Messages may also be left. Please clearly state the student's first and last name, guardian name, dates or class periods absent, and reason for the absence.
A reminder email and robocall are sent to the parent on the day of the absence. If uncleared, the office will make a courtesy call the following day.
When parents do not call within the two school days, the absences are counted as truant and referred to the GLC. We will not accept late phone calls.

Senior Tributes
Senior tributes are more than halfway sold out! Don’t miss out on the opportunity to dedicate a page in the yearbook to your 2023 graduate or friend group. You will start and complete your order all online at yearbookordercenter.com (school code: 2864).
Please be advised that when ordering at yearbookordercenter.com, you cannot reserve a spot or put a down payment. You must complete your tribute, finalize it and pay it in full in order to secure your tribute before they sell out or by January 31, whichever comes first. Unfortunately, the online order center does not show how many pages are left to sell on the website. If you do not see a “purchase your ad” button or “resume your ad” button, then we are sold out. You may design your tribute, save your work and return to it later, but doing so does not save nor guarantee a spot. Pro tip: Gather the photos and prepare your message before starting your tribute so that you can complete it in less time.
Any questions? Contact Ms. Tan at stan@wvusd.org. Your graduate will cherish the memory of a senior tribute for years to come. Order yours before they sell out!
