News from Mr. Hartmann . . .
As we kick off 2024, I want to remind you of the importance of regular attendance for our youngest learners. Attending school regularly ensures that your child is actively engaged in interactive lessons, group activities, and hands-on learning experiences that form the building blocks of their education. These daily interactions contribute significantly to their development of essential skills, social connections, and a love for learning. While we understand that unforeseen circumstances may arise, we kindly ask for your support in prioritizing regular attendance to provide your child with the best possible foundation for success.
Below you will find some tips that you may find helpful.
Attendance Tips:
- Make sure your children keep a regular bedtime and have a morning routine.
- Turn off all electronics, including TVs, phones and tablets, at bedtime.
- Make sure clothes and backpacks are ready the night before.
- Check with our school nurse or office staff if you are not sure about when to keep your child at home due to illness.
- If your child needs to stay home due to illness, ask your teacher for materials and advice about how to help your child stay involved in learning.
- Avoid scheduling vacations or doctor’s appointments when school is in session.
- Talk to teachers and counselors if your student feels anxious about school.
- Develop back up plans. Call on a family member, neighbor or another parent to take your student to school if you are having trouble.

Cell Phones/Smart Watches/Cellular Devices
It is the school’s expectation that cell phones remain in the student’s backpack throughout the day, including while on the bus. If your student brings a device and it becomes a distraction to his/her learning or the learning of others, or if it impacts the security of students, a parent / guardian will be notified. Devices should not be used as a method of communication during the school day. As with anything of value, the school is not liable for theft or damage.
A Change in Reporting Student Absences
Student absence requests will be submitted through Campus Parent Portal for students in grades K-12 beginning January 22, 2024. An “Attendance Request” link will be found on the Parent Hub on your school website for easy access to the Portal and includes resources to assist. Attendance requests can also be submitted through the Campus Parent Portal mobile app.
