A.V.I.D.
Advancement Via Individual Determination
What is A.V.I.D.?
A.V.I.D. stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. It is a third through twelve grade program, to prepare students for college eligibility and success. A.V.I.D.'s mission is to close the opportunity gap by preparing ALL students for college and career readiness and success in a global society.
What are the benefits of being in AVID?
A.V.I.D. aligns with both national and state standards. It teaches proven educational practices. Based on data from August 2019, Nearly 9 out of 10 AVID Seniors submitted college applications and nearly 8 out of 10 were accepted into four-year colleges.
What does the AVID Classroom Look Like?
Students are writing, making inquiries, collaborating, organizing their agendas and binders, reading, note-taking and using study skills to help them succeed in the classroom.
Why Should my Child be in AVID?
An AVID Classroom in Elementary or AVID Elective in Middle School supports students as they continue to make progress and face challenges in more rigorous classes. Students are taught note-taking skills, time management, research skills, writing skills, and critical reading strategies with one goal in mind: College!
Montebello Park Elementary teaches AVID Strategies
At Montebello Park Elementary, we teach the AVID strategies in all of our third, fourth and fifth grade classes. By teaching academic language, responsible behavior and higher-level thinking at a young age, we are helping our students develop and solidify the academic habits they will need to be successful in middle school, high school, college and beyond. We have college pennants in every classroom and create projects around different college campuses. Our goal is to provide an academic foundation the students will need to be on a path for college and career success.
Tenacity and Resilience

-Ernest Agyemang Yeboah
Students who can overcome challenges and approach their learning with resilience, persistence, perseverance, grit and self-regulation are better equipped to achieve success in school and beyond.
