Hiteon Highlights Newsletter
December 3, 2021
Principals' Greeting
Greetings Hiteon Families,
The days at Hiteon are beginning to feel more normal each day, week, and month we are in person. The community building within classrooms and the school is wonderful to be a part of. We are excited that our parents will be able to be a part of this through volunteering.
Hiteon can't wait to open its doors once again to our community. We plan to welcome volunteers back into the teaching and learning process to work alongside us at Hiteon in January 2020.
In anticipation of this, please fill out your background check found here on the BSD website:
https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/departments/communications-community-involvement/volunteer
Please follow the instructions to upload proof of your vaccination. All volunteers will need proof that they are fully vaccinated and must wear a mask at all times when in our school building. Please be sure to bring your vaccination card every time you visit Hiteon.
Our community is a large piece of our Hiteon Heart, and we enjoyed working alongside you in new ways throughout the pandemic. Remote instruction allowed us to forge new partnerships with you in teaching and learning. We look forward to bringing you back into our school building to deepen those partnerships.
Each teacher and team will hit the ground running in different ways with volunteers. Some classrooms will adopt an "ease in approach" and have limited volunteer opportunities, while others may have regular times and schedules. Volunteer work may be reading one-on-one with students, helping make copies, prepping materials, hanging artwork, etc. The possibilities are endless!
We're currently confidently navigating our Covid protocols at Hiteon with distancing, hand washing, mask-wearing, and contact tracing. While we look forward to having our building open again to volunteers, this will bring additional protocol layers. Classroom teachers will need to also be able to contract trace for students that work with volunteers, and volunteers will need to maintain six feet of distance from students at all times.
Individual teachers will share their plans as they decide what works for their class.
Don't hesitate to get in touch with the Main Office with questions.
Kind Regards,
Meghan Warren, Principal
Jenny Read-Emslie, Assistant Principal

Being Good Neighbors
We ask that all parents who park in the neighborhoods around school and walking students to and from school, NOT park in front of mailboxes, blocking driveways or trash cans on trash day.
Thanks everyone for being good neighbors.

Staying Safe at School
Updated December 3, 2021
We want to ensure that all our students and staff remain safe in the school building and school grounds. Please watch this slide deck filled with important information on how we can all stay safe during the school day. Remember, at Hiteon, everyone practices the 3W's.
As of December 3, 2021, students and staff will no longer be required to wear a mask outdoors. At Hiteon, if a student, staff, or parent prefers to wear their mask outdoors, we are supportive of that choice.
- Wear a Mask indoors
- Watch your Distance (Airplane arms - 3ft)
- Wash your hands frequently

Notifying School of your Student's Attendance
Attendance habits are set the very first week of the school year, so please start building good attendance habits early. As a parent, you can help by establishing a regular bedtime and morning routine. You can also avoid medical appointments during school hours, as well as extended trips when school is in session.
If your student does need to be absent or leave school early, be sure to follow these guidelines:
- Email your teacher at least 24 hours prior if possible.
- Inform them that your student will be missing school or being picked up early.
- Please give detailed reasons for the absence.
- Teachers emails follow this format: firstname_lastname@beaverton.k12.or.us
- Include the office team on the email as well. This is incase the teacher is also absent the office staff will also be aware.
- Principal Secretary's email is martha_spinks@beaverton.k12.or.us
- Registrar's email is valerie_sinnott@beaverton.k12.or.us
- We ask that you also call the Attendance line. Again include details regarding the absence.

Don't Let Your Guard Down
Our crossing guards work hard every day to help our children get to and from school safely. Whether on school property or in the community, if you see a crossing guard, please do what they are asking you to do. It takes all of us to keep the roads safe for everyone. Please be especially mindful in school zones, at intersections and crosswalks (marked and unmarked), near bike lanes and in neighborhoods. Thank you!
