Quarterly news from PRMS Library
Volume 4, Issue 3
Welcome to the library's newsletter. I share news at the end of each nine weeks. As always, let me know if you have suggestions!
What's new?
Library card roll-out
All PRSD students in grades K-12 received a public library card in May. This gives families access to in-person events at Northern Tier library, the ability to borrow physical materials from any library in Allegheny County, and a wealth of digital resources. PRMS students learned about the tools available to them when they received their card; see the online resources here. If you don't already have an Allegheny County library card, you can sign up for one here.
Library Happenings
Swap Shop
All students (and staff!) had the opportunity to participate in Swap Shop on May 26, where they could trade in books they've already read for new ones to read over the summer. Huge thanks to Mrs. Pursley for organizing the raffles and prizes!
Have you seen ...
Artificial Intelligence
I recently had the opportunity to attend a workshop about using artificial intelligence (AI) tools in the classroom. While there are some valid concerns, there are also many positive uses to this technology. ChatGPT, an AI chatbot, has been getting a lot of media attention, but there are many other tools, such as art and music generators. Many of the Google Tools we use every day use AI -- predictive text in emails, suggested documents in Google Drive, etc. Check out some of the resources below to learn more. I'd love to collaborate if you are thinking of trying something new with your students!
