Blue Jay Flyer
January 24, 2024
From the Principal's Desk...
Parents and Guardians,
We have a lot going on at St. John’s, so please make sure you read through all this information and let us know if you have any questions.
2024-2025 Registration Forms - Registration forms for returning students went home today in the Blue Jay Folders. If your family plans on returning to St. John’s, please make sure that you fill the form out and return it ASAP. We want to make sure that our current students are registered so that we have accurate numbers for next year.
Open House - This Sunday we will host 70+ tours on our campus. Thank you to everyone who has shared our Open House information and encouraged new families to check out our school. I look forward to seeing all the parents and students who have agreed to be tour guides at our event this weekend.
MAP scores - Winter MAP scores should have come home today from your son/daughter’s homeroom teacher. The individual family report has a lot of information about your students' progress over the last few months. Please keep in mind that MAP testing is new for both the students and the teachers this year. Teachers are still learning how to use this data to enhance student learning in their classrooms. As I stated last week, teachers will be spending the next two inservice days digging into their classroom data and learning how to use the data to adjust instruction in the classroom Some key things to look at when reading the family report include:
Did your student’s RIT score increase or decrease from Fall to Winter?
How does your student’s RIT compare to the National Average Achievement for their grade level?
What percentile does your student fall in for both Math and Reading?
What type of growth did your student make from Fall to Winter: Low, Average, High?
Please note -
8th grade students who are taking Algebra I will not see a growth chart. The reason for this is due to switching from the 6+Math Assessment to the Algebra I assessment for these students.
2nd grade parents please note that in the Fall the students took the K-2 assessment which read the questions and answers to the students. In the Winter, the students took the 2-5 assessment which requires the students to read all the questions, answers and passages. The reason for this change was from guidance from the Archdiocese and to better prepare the students for 3rd grade.
Catholic Schools Week - Next week we will celebrate Catholic Schools Week. Please see the flier in the newsletter or the Blue Jay Folder for more information about the planned events. Also, a reminder that Friday, February 2nd, will be a half day for students. We will release students at 12pm after our annual 8th grade vs faculty volleyball game.
PTO - Check out the two fliers in the Blue Jay Folder for more information about how you can support our PTO through Penny Wars and multiple Dine to Donate opportunities.
The next few weeks are going to fly by due to the amount of activities. If you need more information about any of the above events, please reach out to the office. I hope you all have a great week.
Sincerely,
Courtney Weinheimer

Tony's Fight Foundation Basketball Fundraiser
Please see below for a unique fundraiser that was started by one of our previous school families. It is a great time, so please consider registering to help a family in our community...
If I could ask for a couple moments of your time. My name is Beth Even and I am with the Tony’s Fight Foundation. We have hosted a youth 3v3 basketball fundraiser at LaSalle High School for the last 7 years. Player registration is currently open for 3rd-8th grade students and we would love to invite your students to join us on Saturday, March 9th!
This tournament began as a benefit supporting my family in March 2017. In October 2016 my husband was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma stage 3ES with Vanishing Bile Duct Syndrome, followed by a Renal Cell Carcinoma diagnoses in February 2017. In March 2017 our friends and family rallied around us, hosting this basketball tournament, to show support and help with the medical expenses that come with a cancer diagnosis. With Tony’s test results clear and Tony, myself and our 4 children settled into our new normal... we decided we would like to pay it forward by continuing the tournament. Together with the help from the original tournament committee, we have officially became a 501(c)3 non-profit. Tony’s Fight Foundation was started to help families that have children in area catholic schools with family member fighting a life threatening illness, so they are not faced with the choice of their children’s education or their health.
Register for the event here.
Please see attachment below for more details and to learn about the local family that the foundation will be supporting this year.
