Thank you! Making Churchill a safe and joyful place to learn and grow can only happen with trusting relationships, encouragement of each other through the good and tough times, and real partnership in the work of education. Over the last couple of weeks, we have received multiple recess donations from our families and community members. Our students are so excited for an equipment refresh and to put the gear right to use! We have also had several volunteers come through - dedicating thier time and energy to ensure a safe, clean, and happy lunchtime experience. Together we can create a masterpiece!

We are looking for interested Churchill caregivers to submit their interest to be a part of the Principal's Advisory Committee. The committee will meet three times a school year (once per Trimester) to learn about and discuss school improvement efforts as well as co-construct with the principal special projects. Please complete the form if you are interested and Principal Schnoor will reach out with further details regarding its first meeting. A bus evacuation drill will take place on Monday, October 3rd. 🚌

Our first fire drill was a great success! Everyone did a wonderful job following our evacuation procedures. A second drill will take place on Thursday, October 6th. In October, we will also be hosting the Homewood smokehouse to educate of 3rd graders on fire prevention and safety. 🔥

Students have been learning safety procedures for Code Yellow and Code Red drills. These drills will be put into practice if we experience a danger outside or inside the building. Homewood Police Department will be helping us practice these drills on Wednesday, October 19th. 🚓

Please take a moment to review our arrival and dismissal rules and procedures. We appreciate everyone who continues to follow what is outlined as it helps keeps us all safe during these times. We need those that continue to use the staff parking lot or 190th street to travel, drop-off, or pick-up to stop. Please use the designated traffic patterns and drop-off/pick-up locations. 🚦

We celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month September 15th-October 15th. During this time our school will be engaging in a variety of activities and experiences to learn more about and celebrate our Latino community, past and present. Please explore the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Latino virtual exhibits.

We have many great resources to teach and practice social emotional learning skills at Churchill. Please see some introductory information about Second Step, Ripple Effects, and our Churchill social emotional assessment rubric. Your child will be assessed and provided a grade at the end of each trimester for their performance in the four domains outlined in the rubric.

There will be SHIELD testing on Tuesday, 9/27. This will be the final week we complete testing/collection as we have been doing during the school day. Please review the email sent this morning from Dr. McAlister regarding the changes to our testing procedures.

Starting the week of October 3rd, kits will go home on Monday with those who have requested them and be collected on Tuesdays. You must complete this form only once by September 29th if you would like your child to receive a testing kit each week.
