A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear SHS Parents and Guardians,
Valentine’s Day was the perfect day to begin our Lenten Journey. With love in our hearts, our faculty and students received their ashes and committed to deepening our relationship with God. Father John’s Ash Wednesday Prayer Service reminded us that Lent is a time when we should commit to prayer and reconciliation. Additionally, Father emphasized that Lent is the time to show mercy, kindness and charity. Each Friday during Lent our students will pray The Stations of The Cross. Moreover, throughout Lent, students in grades 3-7 will have the opportunity to participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. If you are looking for some Lenten activities to do at home as a family, check out these resources from the National Catholic Education Association. NCEA Lenten Resources for Families Together, let us walk with Jesus this Lent and draw close to Him!
Many Blessings
Mrs. Joanna Barlow
Principal

SWEETHEART DANCE & VALENTINES CELEBRATIONS
BLACK HISTORY MONTH - CLASSROOM HIGHLIGHTS
This week for Black History Month our SHS Students were busy learning about the Emancipation Proclamation. With February 12th being Abraham Lincoln’s birthday, this was a good week to dig into the proclamations, promises and shortcomings. Students in Middle School Science learned about George Washington Carver's contribution to farming and soil conservation. Our 5th grade read an enlightening article entitled World Without Our People. The educational and informative article highlights the discoveries, advancements and innovations made by 26 persons of color. It illustrates the importance of Black culture and Black history in a kid-friendly way. Stay tuned because our teachers have more exciting lessons planned for next week.

We look forward to a night filled with fun and dancing!

READ ACROSS AMERICA WEEK MARCH 4 - 8
Read Across America week is almost here. The week and month of March will be filled with fun activities. Teachers in grades Pre K- grade 4 will be reaching out regarding a Classroom Mystery Reader. Throughout the Month of March we will run our Booksmiles Service Project. Families are asked to donate gently used books (no writing in the books) and we will deliver them to BookSmiles. Booksmiles.org helps to promote literacy and the joy of reading by giving books to Philadelphia and New Jersey children who need them most. See below for our themed dress down days.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT
Giving Tuesday is a global day of generosity, when people make donations to all kinds of organizations. Tuesday, November 28 marked the 5th year SHS participated in this global day of giving. Giving Tuesday is not just about money, people can donate time, food and even parts of themselves. With this in mind, we saw Giving Tuesday as a teachable moment for our students. On Giving Tuesday our students pledged to give back by doing something good for others. We reinforced the idea that giving and kindness isn't about a day, it is a way to live our lives.
Sacred Heart School would like to thank all of those people who participated in our Giving Tuesday Campaign. If you missed out and would still like to participate in Giving Tuesday please click here or scan the QR code. Our Campaign runs throughout the school year. Your contribution, no matter how small, will make a difference. Your financial gift will directly contribute to offering the students of Sacred Heart School a dynamic, faith-filled, values centered curriculum that fosters creative thinkers and problem solvers. Thank you for being a part of the Giving Tuesday movement with us!

We recently began uploading student art to their portfolio. We will be adding to each student's portfolio throughout the school year. If you do not see any artwork for your little Picasso do not worry, we are just finishing up additional projects in each class.
Please take a moment to scan the code on the flyer to access your child's artwork. If you love your little Rembrandt's piece; this site allows you to purchase it as keepsake. Full giftshop options including ornaments, shirts, mugs etc. Twenty percent (20%) of all proceeds will be donated back to Sacred Heart School!
