Wildcat Weekly
April 17, 2023
Hello Wildcat Families!
I hope everyone has been enjoying the warmer weather that spring has brung. It's hard to believe PSSA testing season is upon us. As such, we will have a slightly modified schedule schoolwide during the assessment window which is April 25th through May 5th. Grades 3 through 5 will participate in the testing. The change in schedule is just an FYI as the regular school hours do not change. This only impacts the times that the students have lunch, recess and special. I have attached the modified schedule below for your information. Please be sure to take special note of these time changes if you are volunteering for lunch, recess or mileage club during the assessment window.
Also, just a reminder that school is closed this Friday, April 21st. Be sure to make note of the fun events coming up which our PTO has organized. These are great opportunities to have fun with family and friends while enhancing our school community. Thank you to all involved in organizing these events!!
Finally, looking ahead to the last days of school. Now with winter behind us, it should be pretty safe to say that June 13th will be the last day of school for students. June 9th, 12th, & 13th will be half days with dismissal at noon.

Flip Flop Drive
Our PTO has organized a Flip Flop Drive. We are collecting NEW flip flops for Partners in Outreach. Partners in Outreach assembles and distributes camp bags for children who participate in subsidized summer camps in the area. Their mission is to improve the lives of children residing in Chester County. The bags include a swim suit, towel, flip flops, water bottle and a summer reading book. This year, WTE will be helping provide flip flops (any sizes for ages 5-15). Some popular sizes include youth sizes 2,3,4,5,6.
A bin for NEW FLIP FLOPS will be placed in main lobby at WTE starting Monday April 17th – Friday May 12th.
Outdoor Movie Night!
The Rustin Walk Her Home Club wants to inform you of a fun event this spring! On Saturday, May 13, we are holding an OUTDOOR MOVIE NIGHT showing Tangled!! There will be concessions and an ice cream truck! We will also have a themed photo booth, face painting, and opportunities to win raffle baskets! Admission is FREE. All proceeds from concessions and donations will go to Walk Her Home- an organization dedicated to raising awareness for and reducing human trafficking. Doors open at 7 PM and the movie will start at dusk. You will need to bring your own blankets or lawn chairs. Come out for a night of fun and to support a good cause in our community! See you all there!

POWER PAWS
Congratulations to all of our power paw winners pictured below. These students were selected by their teachers for best representing what it means to be a wildcat by going above and beyond to be safe, respectful, responsible and kind. Great job students!
Important Attendance Reminders
First, I want to thank you for all your continued efforts to make this school year a great one! I would also like to take a moment to share a brief reminder regarding attendance and absences as we head into the fall and winter months.
Students are required to attend school during the days and hours that we are in session. If your student is unable to attend school, a note must be provided for a reasonable absence. If the absence is necessary for medical reasons and you would like to provide a doctor’s note, the note must include the following:
- · Medical reason for absence
- · Dates excused from school
If the note only includes that a parent/guardian spoke to the physician’s office and guidance was given, the note will be converted to a parent note.
If you have any questions, please reach out to me or to our nurse, Kellie Wallace at kwallace@wcasd.net.
Additionally, if you haven't already, please read the attached letter from our attendance secretary, Mrs. Johannesen, on important reminders about attendance procedures for WTE and the West Chester Area School District.
Attention Parent Volunteers for the 4th & 5th Grade Track Meet!
Is your child in 4th or 5th grade? We are excited to share that our annual 4th and 5th District-Wide Track Meet will be held this May. Our students will enjoy a day at the WCU track in a friendly competition against other WCASD elementary schools. WE WILL NEED YOUR HELP!!! The success of the track meet rests heavily on the parent volunteers. YOU WILL NEED YOUR CLEARANCES. You can visit this link on the district website for information for information about obtaining your clearances. We suggest you put in for your clearances now as they do sometimes take a bit of time to receive them back.
Save the Date to attend as a parent volunteer. More information will come with specific times.
