OLVCS Athletics Updates
Crusaders Compete in Gold Bracket at Warrior Blast
Last Saturday, the Crusader Girls Volleyball Team traveled to West Branch High School to compete against 11 local middle school teams in the Warrior Blast Volleyball Tournament. In pool play, the Crusaders faced the teams from Bellefonte, West Branch, and Philipsburg-Osceola. With great play by all the girls – awesome serves and digs by Sophia Gilroy, great digs by Vale Kaufmann, clutch serves by Katie Laskowski, super sets by Ellie Lingle, and solid play at the net by Claire Peters - the Crusaders won 3 of the 6 matches, earning a place in the gold bracket. In bracket play, the Crusaders faced Bellefonte again. While they had periods of great play, they just could not find their groove and lost the match.
Crusaders Fall To Rockets
Tuesday’s 8th Grade Recognition Game featured the OLV Girls Volleyball Team playing a rematch with the Southern Huntington Rockets. In the first match OLV came out strong, with solid serves, digs, and kills. With the score 24 – 20, OLV, a questionable call was made, which gave the serve to the Rockets. Unfortunately, the Crusaders could not get that last point and lost the match 26 -24. In the second set, the Crusaders could never find their groove, and so OLV lost again, 25-16. With excellent serving by Arianna McCleary and Sydney Mikesic, the B-Team game resulted in 3 decisive match victories for the Crusaders: 25 – 4, 25 – 9, and 15 – 3. The Crusaders travel to Bellefonte to take on the Red Raiders today (Thursday) at 4PM.
OLV Soccer Team Ties Bald Eagle (Girls)
By Ryan (Scoop) Suita, OLV 6th Grade Student
At 4:00 on Thursday, September 28, OLV took on the Bald Eagle Girls soccer team at Orchard Park. Right out of the gate, Collin Jacob puts in a goal to give OLV the lead. A few minutes later, Collin Jacob headed a ball that hit the crossbar to score the Crusaders second goal of the game. Bald Eagle quickly came back with 2 goals to make the score even, 2 each, to end the 1st half. In the 2nd, a Bald Eagle player got injured when the ball gets kicked around in a horde of chaos. The game ended in a 2-2 draw against the Bald Eagle Girls team.
“This team played the most complete game so far this season, from start to finish,” said Head Coach Terry Stec. OLV plays Bellefonte at 4PM on Thursday (TODAY!) at Orchard Park. Players to watch include Collin Jacob, Aryana McCleary, Owen Badger, Isla Herbick, and Caroline Siuta.
