DW Welcomes School Liaison Officer
Daniel Wright has always worked closely with the Lincolnshire Police Department. We are excited to expand our collaboration with the assignment of Officer Roy Bethel as our School Liaison Officer.
The school liaison officer takes a more involved role in getting to know the school better by proactively interacting with staff and students. This means that students will often see Officer Bethel during the day and they are encouraged to interact with him. Because of his usual visits to DW, community members should not be concerned with the frequent presence of a police vehicle on school grounds.
It is commonplace for officers to stop by and perform some of the following duties, said Kimberly Covelli, Lincolnshire Deputy Chief of Police:
• Conduct lockdown drills.
• Aid District 103 personnel with criminal and traffic concerns.
• Assist in training efforts with school staff and department members.
• Conduct safety presentations.
• Build and maintain mutually beneficial relationships.
District 103 is dedicated to the safety and security of all our schools, students, and staff. We look forward to having Officer Bethel as part of our D103 community!
For more pictures of the officer's interactions with students, please visit the school's Google Doc folder.
Student Residency Verification
To assist in making our registration process easier for families, D103 has streamlined student enrollment for the 2023-2024 school year. Instead of attending a residency fair in August, the District is contracting with a third-party vendor to automatically verify student address information through public records. If residency is electronically verified, families will receive an email informing them that they may register for school. No additional residency information is needed.
Families whose residency we are unable to verify through this process will be contacted by email to submit additional documentation.
Once residency has been verified, families must complete registration by submitting the following documents:
2023-2024 Returning Student Enrollment form
Payment of school fees
Required medical documents
Delay in completing any of these steps will result in deferred classroom placement and schedules for the year. Returning Student Registration will open in early May.
Improved Lunch Menu
Following survey feedback, Quest Food Services, the school's lunch provider, has enhanced its service to District 103:
- Quest will offer more vegetarian options including a fish sandwich, hummus and pita snack pack, and vegetable fried rice.
Quest will increase the number of à la carte items at Daniel Wright.
Quest will more closely monitor food temperatures of hot items throughout lunch and is working with the District on equipment options to improve temperature holding.
The fruit and vegetable bar selection will be expanded to offer more options.
Quest will dedicate additional training to its staff and oversight of monitoring expiration dates.
French fries have been replaced with tater tots and potato wedges.
Please visit Quest's Food Services page to view some of the changes for next month.
