January 5, 2024
Principal's Message
Dear Towson High School Community,
As we embrace the possibilities that the new year holds, let us continue to foster an environment where all members of the Towson High School community thrive. May 2024 bring hope, joy, growth, and shared successes, and may our collective efforts make our vision of a thriving learning community a reality.
In advisory this week, students selected one word resolutions for the year. My one word resolution is HOPE because with hope, all things are possible. Ask your students what their one word resolution is for 2024!
Wishing you all a Happy New Year filled with hope, resilience, and the joy of learning.
In partnership,
Dr. Kim Culbertson

Safety Update
ALICE Drill - January 5
On Friday, January 5th, students and staff participated in an ALICE drill. Specifically, students and staff practiced an evacuation to guard against intruders. Although this type of event is very unlikely, we want to be prepared as we prepare for all emergencies. We appreciate your continued support in keeping our students and staff safe.
No Outside Food Deliveries
For the safety of our students and staff, we do not permit food delivery services (DoorDash, GrubHub, UberEats, etc.) to deliver food to students during the school day. Food that is delivered by a delivery service during the school day will be taken to the Main Office and the student will not be able to retrieve it until the end of the school day. If parents/guardians need to provide their students with items during the school day, they must deliver the items themselves in-person to the Main Office.
As a reminder, all students have access each day to free breakfast and lunch in the cafeteria.

Department Spotlights
Science National Honors Society
Happy Holidays from the Science National Honors Society here at Towson High. December was a BUSY month for us. As part of our mission to engage with our feeder schools, a number of our students went to Dumbarton Middle School for four days to help the DMS science students with their upcoming Science Fair projects. Research questions were developed, hypothesis were described and discussed, and experimental designs were planned cooperatively between middle schoolers and high schoolers. It also served as a nostalgic reminder for a lot of the THS students of their past science times. Massive thanks to Mr Wilson at DMS for allowing us to come over and run the intense tutoring sessions.
On a lighter note, Science NHS had a cookie creation party thanks to the hospitality of Ms. Moody in her foods room. Science cookies were the theme, and it was a nice way to end the calendar year with planetary and DNA cookies.
Science NHS went back to DMS on December 21st to discuss with the entire DMS GT 8th grade students about science options for 9th grade. They were invited to attend our May Science Fair day to help judge projects as well as run fun science demonstrations for the attendees and their families.

Attendance Matters
Research has shown that attendance is a leading predictor of academic achievement and adult success. Students who find attending school important are more likely to attain goals like attending trade school, college, or getting a job. By showing up to school every day, students develop a positive work ethic and prepare for future success by developing healthy and productive habits.
Our attendance goals this year are for students to maintain at least a 94% attendance rate and to reduce chronic absenteeism. A student that misses 10% or more of school days in chronically absent. By missing just 2 days a month, a student will be chronically absent. Use the "Attendance Tracker" and "Parent Tips" below to support your student in maintaining satisfactory attendance. Additionally, we will send parents/guardians a "Weekly Attendance Report" each Friday afternoon so you can track your student's daily and period attendance.
