We are officially in our fall season which usually brings cooler temperatures, great fall foods and lots of fun festivals! We are excited to embark on this season with you. I encourage you to please stay involved during this season with our school community. We have lots of engaging events and activities scheduled throughout the next few months. We look forward to seeing each of you in some capacity soon. If I haven't told you in person yet, thank you for all that you do because we truly believe that our families are our partners. If there is something you need, please don't hesitate to reach out. Take care and see you soon!

SATURDAY DISCOVERY PROGRAM
We are excited to announce that Hand on Atlanta’s Discovery program is coming to Asa G. Hillard for the 2023-2024 school year! Discovery is a free Saturday morning program offered to students from kindergarten through fifth grade (with free snacks). We provide a safe space for students to engage with one another while participating in enriching activities focused on S.T.E.A.M., social-emotional learning, and physical health and wellness. Sessions start September 30th from 10 am-12 pm, If interested you can click on English or Spanish and complete the enrollment forms.”
UNIFORM REMINDER
SEPTEMBER IS ATTENDANCE AWARENESS MONTH
Connected to School: When students have positive attendance, they have increased opportunities for connections within the school community. Attending school regularly cultivates friendships, relationships with teachers, and a sense of belonging at school.
Keeping kids connected to school is crucial for their academic success and overall development. Here are some tips for parents to help maintain a strong connection between their children and their school:
1. Attend School Daily: Positive attendance increases connections to learning and the school community.
2. Maintain a Routine: Set a consistent daily routine that includes designated times for waking up, getting ready, and completing homework.
3. Open Communication: Keep lines of communication open between you, your child, and the school. Stay informed about school events, activities, and any updates through newsletters, emails, and parent-teacher conferences.
4. Attend School Events: Attend school events such as parent-teacher meetings, open houses, and performances. These events provide opportunities to connect with teachers, staff, and other parents.
5. Discuss School Experiences: Encourage your child to talk about their school day. Ask about what they learned, any challenges they faced, and their interactions with classmates and teachers. 6. Encourage Extracurricular Activities: Participating in clubs, sports, or other extracurricular activities helps kids feel connected to the school community and build friendships outside of the classroom.
7. Show Interest in Learning: Share your enthusiasm for learning with your child. Discuss interesting topics, read together, and visit educational places such as museums and libraries.
8. Check Their Progress: Regularly review your child's assignments, tests, and grades. Acknowledge their successes and discuss areas where improvement is needed.
9. Problem-Solve Together: If your child faces challenges at school, encourage them to problem-solve. Offer guidance on how to approach difficulties and seek help from teachers or counselors.
10. Celebrate Achievements: Celebrate your child's accomplishments, whether big or small. Recognize their efforts and the progress they make academically and socially.
11. Encourage Friendships: Support your child's friendships by arranging playdates or inviting classmates over. Positive social interactions contribute to a sense of belonging.
12. Address Concerns Promptly: If your child expresses concerns or dislikes related to school, address them promptly. Openly discuss any issues and work together to find solutions.
By staying actively involved in your child's education and fostering a positive and supportive environment at home, you can help them remain connected to school, engaged in learning, and well-prepared for their future endeavors.
MORNING ARRIVAL
Morning arrival is 7:00 am-7:40 am. Students arriving after 7:40 am will be marked tardy as the instructional day begins promptly at 7:40 am. Breakfast is available from 7:10 am-7:35 am. We do not have staff members on campus to monitor students prior to 7:10 am. Students should not be dropped off prior to 7:10 am.
Parents are asked to use the designated car rider loop for morning drop-off. Students should be released from the vehicle quickly and will be escorted by staff members into the building. Please be cautious of other students exiting from their parents’ vehicles and our staff members.
TARDY ARRIVAL
Any student that arrive tardy must have a parent/guardian come in to the front lobby to sign them in. Please refrain from allowing students to exit the vehicle prior to you coming to sign them in. This is for the safety of our students and to ensure all students are accounted for properly.
TRACK THE BUS
Parents/guardians of students should download and use the Here Comes the Bus application. This application will give real-time information on your child's bus location.
DOWNLOAD INFINITE CAMPUS PORTAL
The Infinite Campus portals - Campus Parent and Campus Student - provides access to information for all enrolled students in their household. Information includes grades, attendance, assignments, and school announcements.
Note: Parents must register the first time they are accessing their account. All students have access to Campus Student via ClassLink.

How do I set up my parent portal account?
All portal accounts require a 1-time activation to create your ID and password. You must be a parent/guardian of a current FCS student to activate an account.
To verify identity, you will be asked to provide the following information about 1 student in your household:
- Student first and last name (as entered on the birth certificate)
- Student ID number
- Student Date of Birth (MM/DD/YYYY)
- Student grade level (current grade level
