School Social Workers/Superheroes
A tribute by Tyler Redman, EHS Senior
Graphic by Mia Terry, SMMHS Senior
The title of Social worker is given to those who work in their community and help improve the lives of others. These superheroes masquerading under the moniker of “social workers” are groups of people who concern themselves with the lives and well-being of families, individuals, and communities. When you hear the word social worker, your mind is drawn to those offering care to the sick, those inspiring and empowering the students in your schools, and lifting up those who are in need. Social workers aren’t limited in the problems they can solve, and I guarantee you any social conflict or problem one faces in a community is addressed by and advised by some type of social worker. Your local therapist, pharmacist, nutritionist, nurse, are all categorized as social workers, and these professions plus countless more serve as a backbone to our communities. Without social workers, society would have no way of healing itself, there would be no one there to solve its many problems, to treat people’s sicknesses, to provide aid to them financially, and help people through dark times. In essence, social workers are the light in the dark, the outstretched hand, they will always be there to lend their support, and their care to those struggling whether it be struggling mentally, financially, or physically. So, take this time to recognize and thank your local social workers, because without them, where would we be?
