Second Quarter Honor Roll
Monomoy Regional High School has released the names of the students who achieved High Honor Roll and Honor Roll status for the second quarter of the 2021-2022 school year.
MRHS senior Nicole Peterson awarded 2022 Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents Award for Academic Excellence
Each year, Superintendent Dr. Scott Carpenter awards one Monomoy Regional High School senior the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents Award for Academic Excellence. This award is given to the high school senior who has distinguished themselves in the pursuit of excellence during their high school career. In selecting the award winner each year, Dr. Carpenter looks for not only academic success within our classrooms, but for demonstrations of leadership and initiative within the school and the greater community. MRHS high school counselors and administrators help with this selection, and for 2022, the team has selected Nicole Peterson to receive the Award for Academic Excellence.
Nicole was presented with the award at the School Committee meeting on February 17, 2022. Dr. Carpenter read the following remarks from Nicole’s guidance counselor when bestowing this honor:
Nicole Peterson is among the most intelligent and driven students with whom I have worked in over 20 years of service in public education. Nicole has been laser-focused and determined to become the best student and school citizen possible. She has met and exceeded her goal, growing from an inexperienced freshman to a true leader in our school.
While her ability to lead others has improved each year, her academic accomplishments have been consistent throughout. She has taken the most rigorous schedule, when compared to all of her peers, over four years and has been number one in her class since the first quarter of high school. She has a warm and welcoming nature, complimenting her fierce academic drive. The adults and peers with whom she has worked marvel at her unmatched work ethic and accomplishments with earnest sincerity.
Nicole has taken honors or AP coursework in every possible area. Her performance has been top-notch and diversified, culminating in her recognition as an AP Scholar after her junior year. Nicole has received the highest cumulative grade in every AP class she has taken. She is the vice president of our Steminist Club and plans to major in neuroscience, and there is no doubt she will advance to the highest levels of learning in this discipline. She always seems to get the most difficult concepts a step more quickly than most, even within the honors and AP environment. She has earned high honors on her report cards steadily since grade nine. Our faculty honored Nicole at the junior awards ceremony last year with the Harvard College Alumni Association Award for academic achievement and for the benefit of the community. There truly are no weaknesses in Nicole’s academic profile and her areas of strength are as advanced as any I have ever seen.
Besides reading and studying, most of Nicole’s remaining time has been split between athletics, student leadership, and global citizenship. Nicole serves as the service-learning coordinator for the National Honor Society and has helped revive our peer-tutoring program, which assists middle and high school students and was wildly popular before the pandemic. Many of Nicole’s most admirable characteristics blossomed because of a lifelong commitment to figure skating, including perseverance, resiliency, and diligence. She has passed these qualities on by volunteering countless hours working with younger skaters. Nicole is also a very talented violinist, which helps her balance the stress and fast-paced path she has chosen to follow.
It has been a real privilege coming to know Nicole and her family. She is a twin of her sister, Victoria, who happens to be ranked number two in the class of 2022. Nicole credits her family and faith as the driving forces behind her academic and life successes. They have helped to foster her independence, but have also been there as a supportive and encouraging constant. She is a young woman of tremendous character, which only adds to her impressive intellectual credentials.

It was a tough game but our determination and hard work backed by a string of wind powered us by the dolphin for a win. On Saturday we took on Tri-County where we had the chance to rest some legs wand perfect our game with a 5-2 win to prep for Nauset. Sunday was a big test for the Monarchs.
