Make sure your student feels ready to be photographed prior to picture day this Friday, August 18th. Hair-doos and good-looking shirts are a must! If anyone missed on Friday, there will be a make-up Picture day next month.
Student Council 2023-2024
Are you a LEADER? Do you have ideas & initiative? If so, then we want YOU to consider running for Student Council! This year, our Student Council will include a President (8th grade), VP (7th or 8th grade), Secretary (6th grade), Treasurer (6th or 7th grade), a grade level representative from each grade as well as Nestbuilder representation. Start planning your campaign strategies. More information to come!

Show your leadership skills in supporting all schools in our district.
September is National Attendance Awareness month! All schools are encouraged to submit one selected theme to enter the district competition.
Directions will be given to where to submit your ideas inside the building. Then the winner will be submitted to the district. There will be awards for our building level winner(s).
District winner will receive district recognition, theme will be distributed across
the district, and the student and school will earn a special prize!
Students invited to participate in Show Us YOUR Nashville contest
Students ages 8-18 are invited to participate in "Show Us YOUR Nashville," a creative contest for young Nashvillians to present ideas about how to improve our city. Students can create a visual representation of their ideas using media from crayons to computer graphics, with a short description. Prize winners will receive up to $1,000. The contest runs through Sept. 22, and finalists will present their ideas at the Artville.org festival on Sept. 30.
Corporate Sponsors Needed to Support West End Middle School!
The WEMS PTSO are selling banners with your company's logo on it- banners will cost $1000, be 3'x5', and placed on WEMS campus. Advertise your company and support our awesome school!
Our corporate sponsors help fund important PTSO functions, such as teacher appreciation, equipment and uniforms for our sports teams, funding for after-school events and field trips, and classroom wish list items. We want to bridge the gap between our funding and our school needs. An investment in our local school is an investment in your community. Together, let’s invest in West! In addition, we will be holding a silent auction in the spring and would love any donations of gift cards or business services if you are not ready to commit to sponsorship. Please complete the below sponsor form and mail with payment. A check is the preferred method of payment. Please email Melissa Fuller at monamissa@hotmail.com with your graphic that we can print on the banner. See form on this link....

West Wear 2023
Our PTSO has put together some new swag for this school year. It's been a few years since we have had a fresh look so check it out online. Order from your computer or phone with the option to have it shipped directly to your house.
Let's get ready for our Homecoming later this fall by having as many people as possible swagged out in our new line of West Wear!
Arrival and Dismissal
Please review the arrival and dismissal procedures in the PowerPoint below. There are not any significant changes from last year, but please remember that Bowling Entry is for busses only. All car drop offs should occur from the Elmington side of the building.
Thank you
Car Riders
Parents,
We want to provide a few reminders regarding morning and afternoon car riders.
Car Riders (morning & dismissal):
- Students being transported to/from school via personal motor vehicle will unload/load in the semi-circle drive located off Elmington Drive directly behind the New Gym.
- Students dropped off in the morning should EXIT FROM THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE for student safety. Remember, you are dropping your child off in the right lane and vehicles are moving in the left lane to exit. This occurs for morning car riders only.
- If your child has items to remove/unload from your vehicle, please park in a parking space to avoid backing up traffic behind you.
- Car riders should be picked up and dropped off in the car rider lane. If your child is picked up or dropped off in any other location, please know that students are unsupervised and there is no adult supervision off campus. This also applies to students who are dropped off before 8:40 a.m.
The safety of your student(s) is our utmost concern, and we appreciate your understanding these procedures to ensure safety.
Bus Riders
If your student will ride the bus, check our Transportation webpage for bus route information, available starting July 28. Be sure to check the site before the first day of school as route times are subject to change as new students enroll and are added to routes.
MNPS Student-Parent Handbook
Review the online Student-Parent Handbook and submit your responses to requested permissions using our Online Permissions Portal. It is important to submit your permission responses, as some activities/courses require parent/guardian permission before a student can participate.
Survey Permissions Change for 2023-24
In years past, the default has been “yes” for students to participate in the district’s School Climate Survey unless their parents opted them out. However, due to new legislation (TN Code § 49-2-211), this year, the default is “no” unless parents opt them in by either submitting permission online at permissions.mnps.org or returning a signed paper permission form.
Please return permission forms (paper or online) for your survey participation rates to ensure we have rich data about our school climate from our students’ perspectives.
Water in classrooms only. (No additives)
We want everyone to stay hydrated! Refillable water bottles containing water only will be allowed in classes throughout the day. Please refrain from bringing/adding flavor packets or drops. Spills with added flavorings can add additional clean up and can leave residue that attracts bugs.
Outside food/drink policy
This year we are updating our outside food/drink policy. All food/drink must be consumed in the cafeteria. This extends to outside food or drink brought in by students in the morning. If your child brings Starbucks, a breakfast sandwich, or even a protein bar, they must report to the cafeteria until they are ready to go to the classroom and focus on learning. In addition, no food or drink will be allowed into the building for late arrivals. If you are arriving late, please eat before you come. Thank you for your understanding as we are trying to increase engagement and reduce distractions as we begin our day.
7th Graders Required Immunizations
An updated Tennessee Immunization Certificate with proof of one additional immunization is required when entering 7th grade. Immunizations are available from your child’s doctor. They may also be available through the Metro Public Health Department if your child has TennCare, no insurance or insurance that does not pay for vaccines. Providing the school with the required updated TN Immunization certificate is required for all 7th grade students.

Club Offerings at West End
West End offers a wide variety of clubs-everything from Ultimate Frisbee to Dungeons and Dragons. BUT there’s always space for more offerings. Don’t see a club that you think your child would love? We invite you to help get it started and we invite anyone in the West End Community to share their talents. Crochet, crafts, croquet, musical instruments, cooking, book club, chess, magic tricks…whatever. Come share your talents with our community. Feeling a little unsure of how to get started?
Please contact Jeff Middlebrooks at jeffmiddlebrooks@gmail.com for next steps on how to get your club idea going.
