WMS Friday Forecast

Dear WMS Parents and Guardians:
As the parent of two older kids (22 and 20 years old) I reflect back on some of the times I wished there was a parenting manual for my wife and me to read. And while there are some really good parenting books out there, most of our response to our children is based on our own experiences- what we thought was effective and not effective as kids.
I read a great article recently that talked about how parents of highly successful adults spoke to their children. There certainly are some key phrases, practices, and attitudes that make a difference as our kids move through childhood to adolescence and finally to adulthood. As you will see in these sentences, these are things we all want for our children: independence, kindness, flexibility, a reflective and positive attitude, and love.
"I can't do everything for you."
"Do your best and be kind."
"If something doesn't work out, don't be sad. It may turn out to be a good thing later on."
"What's the best- and worst- thing that happened today?"
"I love you."
The explanation of why these are important is in the article. We know that these phrases can be a challenge for the adolescent mind and heart to accept and understand. but with consistency and perseverance, our kids will remember and learn from these wise words.
Enjoy your weekend!

MIDDLE SCHOOL PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!!!
The sign‐up portal for Parent-Teacher will open beginning next week. We will be using Pick-A-Time again this year.
The Pick-A-Time portal will open SEPTEMBER 23rd at 7:00 am
It will promptly close OCTOBER 3rd at midnight. Once the portal closes parents will not be able to schedule a time for these conference dates.
Instead of larger group, or “team” meetings, conferences will be held with individual teachers. All conferences will be held either Zoom or in person in individual classrooms this year, and each conference will be eight minutes long with a four minute transition.
Directions:
Login to your HAC (HOME ACCESS CENTER) Account
Click on the link for "Parent-Teacher Conference Scheduler"
Be sure to ONLY choose Q1 teachers!
A few notes about sign-up:
Parents should not feel obligated to sign-up for conferences. If your child is doing well at school, both academically and socially, then you might choose not to have a conference. (It does not make you a bad parent not to sign-up for conferences!) If your child is struggling, we would suggest that you do come to conferences!
You might only feel the need to meet one or a few teachers. There is no obligation to meet every teacher.
If you wish to visit the explore teachers, please sign-up to visit your child’s first-quarter explore teacher.
You can sign-up for a conference with a teacher only one time. Our student services team (counselors, social workers) will be available for conferences, as well. If you decide you need more time with a teacher, we are always willing to meet with you.
In some cases, a teacher may contact you in advance to set-up a conference time. That means we want to guarantee you a time to meet with your child’s teachers.
When you sign-up, try to sign-up for all conferences in a row. (Do not schedule gap times in the middle or you will be waiting around for a long time!)
You are welcome to have your RedHawks student with you during conferences! It is important that they hear what you hear. They are of the age when they are mature and responsible enough to be part of the conversation whether via Zoom or in-person.
We Need Help:
Parent conferences are just around the corner and we are planning a soup and salad luncheon. Please consider making an item or bringing in a donation. Thank you so much for all you do to support our staff. https://www.signupgenius.com/index.cfm?go=w.manageSignUp#/36902692 -Staff Appreciation Committee

Student Library Card FAQ for Parents
The St. Charles Public Library District offers a Student Library Card for District 303 students who live outside of the St. Charles Public Library District (SCPLD) and are not eligible for a library card at another public library. With a Student Library Card, students can access SCPLD resources, including checking out books and other materials, using our research databases and accessing eBooks. Big Hearts of Fox Valley
Big Hearts of Fox Valley is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization making a difference in our own community by brightening the lives of D303 children affected by financial hardship at Christmas time and throughout the school year. One of the needs BHFV faces every year is items for teens both during the holidays and throughout the year. Our Wredling community is hoping to help with these Needs for Teens with a collection drive.
Boxes will be at the front doors of Wredling on Curriculum Night Tuesday, August 30th for easy drop off. Any donations of the listed items would be so very appreciated and help students in D303 greatly. We will also have a box for donations on the field at Color Run on September 29th if you'd like to bring in donations then.
You can also make a monetary donation to BHFV that will go 100% to purchasing items for these D303 children and teens in need by visiting Make a Donation - Big Hearts of Fox Valley (bigheartsfv.org)
We are also looking for 10 Wredling families to sponsor a child for the holidays. Lists will be distributed in mid October.
If you have any questions or are interested in sponsorship, please reach out to Jackie Walzer at jmwalzer@hotmail.com
