ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery Test)
What is the ASVAB?
The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude is the most widely used multiple-aptitude test battery in the world. As an aptitude test, the ASVAB measures your strengths, weaknesses, and potential for future success. The ASVAB also provides you with career information for various civilian and military occupations and is an indicator for success in future endeavors whether you choose to go to college, vocational school, or a military career.

Where can I take the ASVAB?
- Students could contact a military recruiter to arrange to take the ASVAB. There is a test version that allows students to test at home, then come to MEPS office to take an abridged ASVAB test to verify scores. Where? Mt. Carmel High School offers the ASVAB in December and April annually.

As a Marine Corps musician, you’ll have the opportunity to serve with one of the 10 renowned Marine Corps bands throughout the world. Leadership roles within the bands include Bandmasters, Small Ensemble Leaders, Enlisted Conductors, Drum Majors, and Instrument Repair Technicians. Also available is the opportunity to be a part of The Commandant’s Own Marine Drum & Bugle Corps, based in Washington, D.C.

Officer Commission Pathways
ROTC - Reserve Office Training Corps
JROTC and ROTC programs are designed to train future U.S. Military officers at middle schools, high schools, and universities across the United States. Some students join JROTC or ROTC because they want a career in the military, while others are more curious about how the program can helm they pay for college. College ROTC programs exist at 4-year colleges and universities, not at community colleges.

Cal Maritime U.S. Coast Guard Officer Training Programs
3 ways to serve with the US Coast Guard through University programs:
1. The Auxiliary University Program (AUP) offers cadets an exciting opportunity to serve as a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary during their college education.
2. Maritime Academy Graduate Program - Maritime Academy Graduates have education and training that enhances the Coast Guard's ability to carry out its missions. The Direct Commission Maritime Academy Graduate Program is available to individuals who hold a qualifying degree from Cal Maritime.
3. Coast Guard Select Reserve - The Coast Guard Reserve offers exciting and rewarding opportunities during your college education at Cal Maritime. As a reservist, you will be a member of the military and attend an eight-week boot camp preparing you for the Coast Guard. You will receive valuable experience and training to supplement your education. Initial training is planned accordingly to your school schedule and often takes place in the summer months. Reservists dedicate their time serving one weekend a month and two weeks per year.

Military Academies
Military Academies in the United States offer an excellent option for students who are interested in serving their country and receiving a quality education at no cost. Students at these institutions typically receive free tuition, room, and board as well as a small stipend for expenses. All five of the undergraduate military academies have selective admissions, and all require at least five years of service upon graduation.
