A Message From The Principal
It is hard to believe that fall is here and our first quarter will be coming to an end on October 27th. I am really excited with the start to our school year. We had an amazing Open House and our first weeks of school have been very successful. The energy in our building is very positive and our teachers are working diligently to provide your students with a high quality and engaging education. We have several new staff on board and we are featuring them each week on Facebook. The energy they bring to the building is refreshing and innovating.
We have several high quality initiatives that we are working on this school year to meet the needs of our students. We are looking to expand our College Credit Plus opportunities, developing college and career pathways for our students, adding industry recognized credentials to enhance our students' skillset, providing job shadowing opportunities, and adding an internship class to prepare our students for their future. The staff at Margaretta is working collaboratively to prepare our students for their future. It will be exciting to see the opportunities available to our students over the next few years.
Conferences are right around the corner. They will be held on Thursday, November 9th and Tuesday, November 14th from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. We will hold traditional conferences for families and teachers to collaborate but we will also be offering informational sessions for families. Some of the sessions will cover graduation requirements, YouScience, Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and much more. More detailed information will be provided. We also hope to arrange for food trucks once again since conferences are held over dinner time.
I am here to serve our students, families, teachers and school staff. My door is always open. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns at 419.684.5351 or at jtheis@margarettaschooldistrict.com.

Counselor's Corner
First and foremost I would like to thank you all for a wonderful start of the 2023/2024 school year. I am enjoying getting to know our Freshman students and our new faculty members. I am very proud to work with the students that I get to work with. I believe that our student body is very well rounded, kind and considerate of others. Thank you to all the parents and guardians that share them with us.
If you have not already done so please take the time to visit our website. You can access it by going to our Margaretta District Home page and following the bread crumb across the top until you come to Parents/Students, hover over that and you will see a tab below titled Guidance. Click on this link and you will be directed to our website. This is a great resource of information for both parents and students.
I would like to share with you some upcoming activities and events that our high school students can look forward to.
At this time I am meeting with all Senior students to complete a Senior meeting. In these meetings students will receive their comprehensive Graduation Plan, Transcript and Important college information. If students have missed their meeting or have not signed up as of yet they can do so by responding to the email that they were sent or by stopping in Student Services and scheduling an appointment.
On September 27th a Senior Information Assembly was conducted in the Cafeteria. Students were given a large amount of information at this time. Each student was given a packet of information containing scholarship information, college application tips, tips for asking for letters of recommendation, sample scholarship applications, sample resumes, etc. DO NOT worry if you missed this meeting. The information is available to you on the Guidance website. Additionally, any student can stop in to see me and/or Mrs. Bohn I will go over this information with them.
On October 2nd the EHOVE Counselor (Mr. Wes Sanderson) will be here for a EHOVE Exploration presentation. During this time he will meet with all Sophomore students. He will share an informational video with them and review programs that EHOVE has to offer. Students have an option to attend the EHOVE Exploration field trip that will take place on November 14th. If they choose to do this, students will be given the opportunity on this day to sign up for three programs that they would like to see on that exploration day.
On October 4th the Freshman class will travel to EHOVE for a Manufacturing Career Exploration day. This event will provide students with information regarding manufacturing pathways, with local employers providing interactive learning stations to participate in hands-on experiences. Students will leave MHS at 9:20 am and return around 11:30 am.
On October 19th the PSAT/NMSQT test will be given here at MHS. This is an optional test that students can sign up for at their own expense. The fee this year is $18 and if students score high enough they can be considered for scholarships through the National Merit Scholarship. If you have questions regarding this please contact Mrs. Lott.
High school students have the opportunity to participate in a “Voice of Democracy” essay contest. Students will be made aware of this contest and will be given guidance and class time to complete entries. This is an exciting incentive for students to express their views and knowledge of their patriotism. There are also scholarship opportunities linked to this experience.
On November 8th students in grades 10, 11 & 12 will be given the opportunity to take The American Legion Americanism and Government test. This test is sponsored by Commodore Denig American Legion Post 83 in Sandusky. This also offers students an opportunity to win money and possibly advance from the district level to the state level.
If at any time you have questions, concerns or comments please feel free to contact me, Heather Lott, at (419) 684-5351 or email at hlott@margarettaschooldistrict.com. I welcome communication from all of you. I hope that you continue to enjoy the school year.
