Dear PV Families,
The recent headlines have been dominated by reports of world conflicts, particularly in regions such as Israel and Gaza. The stories emerging from these areas are both alarming and deeply disturbing not only for adults but also for our students. In addition, there have been indications that certain resistance groups, such as Hamas, may be planning to share hostage videos on social media platforms, including TikTok and Instagram. In light of this, families are encouraged to be extra vigilant in monitoring their children's online viewing. Below is a list of resources that you may find helpful in talking with your child(ren) about world conflicts:
Reflecting on global events, it becomes increasingly vital for our community to unite during these trying times. Whether we're addressing international crises or local challenges, our collective dedication to the well-being and education of our children serves as a strong cornerstone upon which we can build bridges. Our community is experiencing firsthand divisions created by various contentious issues, and I believe it's our duty, as a school district, to take the lead in bridging these divides.
To promote healthy discourse and foster mutual understanding, I am actively exploring various ways to engage with our community. Additional dates for our popular Coffee & Conversation Superintendent Roundtables have been posted on the District calendar (and below). These gatherings will serve as a valuable platform to engage in open, respectful conversations about the issues that matter most to us. They will also provide an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of our District's policies and procedures, as at times, information obtained from informal sources can prove to be inaccurate or misleading. Please make note of the following dates for upcoming roundtable discussions:
Wednesday, November 29 @ 7:00pm
Thursday, February 22 @ 9:00am
Wednesday, April 24 @ 7:00pm
I strongly encourage your participation. Together, I am confident we can create a nurturing and inclusive environment that sets a positive example for our students. Let's work collaboratively to maintain the Perkiomen Valley School District as a place of unity, support, and progress for all.
Go Phillies! #RedOctober
Sincerely,
Dr. Barbara A. Russell
Superintendent
