Attendance Information
Following Massachusetts guidelines children need to be attending school. Unless truly sick we expect your children to be in school everyday. We have started to send out notification letters and will be asking for meetings in order to work together to help with a child's attendance. We do realize there are always circumstances that can not be avoided and we can work together to avoid any problems. The school will notify parents when a student reaches 5 unexcused absences. The state identifies excessive absences as 10 unexcused absences.
Why Attendance Is So Important:
- Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school – and themselves.
- Research shows that the earlier a child learns that school is his or her job and that he or she has important work to do, the more successful children will be in their education.
- Good attendance will help children do well in high school, college and at work.
- Being late to school may lead to poor attendance and missed learning opportunities.
- Learning begins the moment children settle into their morning routines. When a child is late for school, even by a few minutes, learning is interrupted.
- Students can still fall behind if they miss just a day or two every few weeks.
- Being chronically absent (missing 10 percent of school) can make it harder to learn to read.
- Two absences a month equals 20 absences a year.
- If a child has 18 absences per year, by the time they finish Grade 9, they have missed one full year of school!

Choose To Be Nice Club Visits Food Pantry
The Heritage School chapter of the Choose To Be Nice Club visited the St. Joseph's Charlton Food Pantry. While there, they learned about the importance of donating food, they learned how to sort the different foods and they made little notes to go into the food bags. The most important thing they learned was that in order to get food from the food bank, you DO NOT have to live in Charlton and you DO NOT have to be a parishioner. Details below.
