Sycamore Junior High Family Communication
January 20 , 2023
Junior High Families,
It has been a great week this week! Starting the 3rd quarter, Lunar New Year, Freshman Camp, Bengals Bus during Flex, and the T-Shirt Project--it is ALL happening!
Now that we are in the 2nd semester, we must recognize how far we have come. In five short months, our students have worked hard, engaged in the community, been flexible to changes due to construction, matured, and have continued to be the great student body that you help cultivate from home.
It is truly a team effort, from our students and staff to the custodians, lunch staff, secretaries, bus drivers, and more! This school has a special family feel because of the energy everyone brings to Cooper Road EVERY day.
Bring that same energy to the Bengals game Sunday and MAP testing next week!
Enjoy the weekend...and WHO DEY!
-Mrs. Schunk, Mr. Meyer, Mr. Cole
On Tuesday and Wednesday (1/24-1/25), the students will undertake the second round of MAP testing for Reading and Math. This will occur again in May.
Students will go to their 1st bell classes on both days, but some students will test in alternative locations.
Here is how you can help!
They will need their school issued Chromebook fully charged and updated. If they are in Flex Bell Friday or Monday, the update should happen at that time.
Encourage them to do their best!
Let them know that this is just one moment in time and that the score will only be used to help them be as successful as possible.
Teacher Requested Parent Teacher Conferences
We have a second round of Parent/Teacher Conferences in February, but the teacher schedules this round. The teachers will individually reach out to the families of students they feel that a meeting would help with student achievement. A link will not be sent out for families to schedule a meeting; however, if a family has specific questions or concerns, they are always encouraged to reach out to the teacher at any point in the school year.
College and Career Planning with SchooLinks
SchooLinks is a modern, college and career readiness platform to prepare students for what comes after graduation. SchooLinks helps students discover their interests and strengths, explore colleges and careers, and create a personal graduation plan that best reflects their post-secondary goals. SchooLinks at Sycamore Junior High School is accessible in 7th and 8th grades by students and their parents. Students will continue their SchoolLinks exploration throughout their high school years, so all activities/progress will follow them from the Junior High.
All of the SchooLinks features are designed with students in mind to help them become career, college, and life ready. SchooLinks features are incredibly user-friendly, and content can be easily comprehended by students.
**8th-grade students began using SchooLinks during the month of December and will continue through the end of the year. 7th-grade students will be introduced to SchooLinks in March.
More information on SchooLinks can be found on our website.
Student Login: Students will login to SchooLinks via Google using their Sycamore Google account.
Guardian/Parents Login: This will be available through an invitation from their child. Instructions for adding a guardian can be found here.
SHS Scheduling Update
As we move along with the schedule planning timeline, we want to make sure students and families are aware of the resources available! The following items have been created to help make sense of our courses and options for rising 9th graders.
- Course Guide - includes all courses, descriptions, and prerequisites.
- List of 9th Grade Courses - this is a simplified list of the classes available in the 9th grade.
- Video Orientation - includes all the information we would like students to consider while planning their classes for next year. Students will review this same information through SchooLinks.
High School Counselors - at the high school, we have grade level team that will work with a class for all four years. For the class of 2027, the counseling team is listed below.
