Core Value of the Month: Caring
Over the past month, we have seen several staff and students demonstrate CARING. For example, the JROTC program takes time to pick up trash around the building's exterior landscape. Student Council has planned a community event called the Mitchell Monster Mash to engage our middle and elementary schools as well as the Mitchell School Community. The football, soccer, softball, cross-country, and volleyball teams went to other school events to support their fellow Marauders and help fill the stands. Football even went to the Orchestra Concert to support one of their teammates, Jasper Dixon, in his performance. Staff has shown CARING by being present in the hallways and building positive relationships with our students. The staff also "Pounded the Principal" with gifts for Principal Appreciation Month.
There are plenty of other examples of our school demonstrating the CARING core value and we are building a culture that will ensure the social and emotional health of our stakeholders and propel our students to academic success!
Student Life
Extracurricular activities provide a channel for reinforcing the lessons learned in the classroom, offering students the opportunity to apply academic skills in a real-world context, and are thus considered part of a well-rounded education. Recent research suggests that participation in extracurricular activities may increase students' sense of engagement or attachment to their school, and thereby decrease the likelihood of school failure and dropping out.
Volleyball Senior Night
The Marauders will finish the season with their home tournament at Mitchell starting at 9 o'clock. Let's finish strong!

From Our Ramp Crew (School Counselors)
Mitchell Counselors are hard at working helping all students complete their ICAPs. ICAP stands for “Individual Career and Academic Plan”. Students complete pieces of this plan each year of high school. This helps students explore their options after high school and prepare for their futures. 66% of freshmen have completed their ICAP and 55% of seniors have completed theirs. We are now working with sophomores and juniors. Check out what tasks your students will be doing here!
Monthly Awareness/Observations: Emotional Wellness Month
“Emotional wellness” refers to our ability to process feelings in a healthy, positive way and manage the stress of everyday life. If you feel stressed or overwhelmed, try a soothing activity like meditation or yoga to slow down and clear your mind.
With our hectic schedules, devices pinging us from every direction, and modern life becoming increasingly uncertain, it’s more crucial than ever to maintain a sense of calm and balance. Emotional Wellness Month, observed all October, reminds us to disconnect and take a time out for our brain.
Maintaining a healthy emotional balance helps us make healthy choices, have good relationships, and achieve our goals. Emotional wellness gives us a toolkit for handling life’s stresses, navigating relationships, and keeping ourselves motivated. Mindfulness, a simple but powerful concept inspired by Eastern meditation traditions, is a useful way to practice engaging in the present, accepting events and feelings without judgment, and moving through life with calm and ease.
Did you know your emotional well-being has powerful effects on your overall health? Mental and emotional stress can translate into negative physical reactions, a weakened immune system, and poor health.
Did you know good sleep and a healthy diet can have powerful effects on your emotions? If you’re feeling depressed or anxious, make sure you’re getting proper rest and eating nutritious food. Consider your relationship to yourself and your loved ones. Do you feel confident and optimistic about your future? Do you have good communication with those you care about? Are you able to express your feelings and process difficult times in a healthy way?
High levels of stress can lead to physical complications like high blood pressure, headaches, and even chronic conditions like diabetes. If you’re having a hard time enjoying life or experiencing the physical symptoms of high stress, talk to your doctor or a therapist who can guide you toward activities and treatment options that can help you feel like yourself again.
Use Emotional Wellness Month as an opportunity to take charge of your emotional wellness, find the soothing activities that work for you, and, most of all, breathe!

CyberPatriot - The National Youth Cyber Education Program is a STEM program of the Air & Space Forces Association. It was created to inspire K-12 students toward careers in cybersecurity or other science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines critical to our nation's future.
At the center of CyberPatriot is the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition, which puts teams of high school and middle school students in the position of newly hired IT professionals tasked with managing the network of a small company. Through a series of online competition rounds, teams are given a set of virtual operating systems and are tasked with finding and fixing cybersecurity vulnerabilities while maintaining critical services. The top teams in the nation earn all-expenses-paid trips to Maryland for the National Finals Competition where they can earn national recognition and scholarship money.
Mitchell JROTC Students had their first CyberPatriot Competition (Round 1) on Friday, 10/21/2022.

Riding on our wings are all Mitchell Educational Support Professionals (ESP). We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to all of our Mitchell ESP for their unwavering support of our students and our collective school improvement efforts, demonstrated by consistent dedication and service.
We encouraged all staff to extend appreciation to our ESP staff members throughout the week of October 17th - 21st by simply saying, "Thank you." In order to support our students to the best of our ability and prepare them for the future, it truly does take a village. Many times, ESP staff are the individuals that make a lasting impression on the hearts and minds of our young people.
