Dear Chávez Families,
As the school year comes to a close, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for your support and trust throughout my time as your principal. I have been privileged to witness the growth and potential of your children, and I am so very proud of their accomplishments. We have been through a lot together over the past years! Chávez will always hold a place in my heart.
As summer vacation approaches, I encourage you to cherish the time spent with your little ones. Create lasting memories and embrace the joy that comes with this special season. And when the new school year rolls around in the fall, I am confident that the dedicated Cheetah staff will continue to provide a caring and nurturing environment where your children will thrive.

Are you getting ready to clean out closets and cull thorough books and toys? Please consider donating to Bags of Love. We rely heavily upon community donations to keep our inventory stocked, and we accept donations of new and gently used clothing, toys, and books. Items must be clean, tear- and stain-free, and in good condition. Serving children ages birth-17 and sizes preemie to adult 4XL means our clothing needs are wide-ranging and never-ending!
A Bag of Love is a care package for a child in need – a child in poverty, moving into foster care, or one without a home at all. Each bag is customized for the age and gender of the child and includes necessities and comfort items including; 1-2 complete outfits, socks and underwear, toiletries, school supplies, an activity kit, books, a quilt or fleece blanket, and a stuffed animal.
In 2022 we distributed more than 4,600 bags to children in Lane County in crisis due to abuse, neglect, poverty, homelessness, and disaster.
You can drop off donations at our warehouse (1052 Green Acres Rd), which is open Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Not a convenient time for you? Chávez Summer Reading Challenge
Help your student/s keep their hard earned reading skills in gear during the summer.
During the school year your student/s are engaged in reading and learning activities about 6 hours a day, but in the summer kids can experience a Summer Slump, because they are not engaged in reading activities for about 2 months. This can make a tougher transition in September and some learning loss too.
Reading for at least 20 minutes a day can support in retaining what students learned during the year and keeping those mental "muscles" engaged.
Here are some ways to support your student in reading 20 minutes a day:
1. SORA: Ms. Dyer, your librarian, is teaching your student/s how to get ebooks and audiobooks from a school app called Sora. You can sign in through Sora or Clever. Look for your child's sign-in information with their report card packet. This video will walk you through logging into Sora (https://youtu.be/nCcDaqdhEU4).
2. BOOKS at HOME: Also, if your student is in K-2, they chose 5 "take home and keep books" from the United Way Book Fest this week. You can read those books with your student. Also your student received a number of books from our Smart Readers program this year they can re-read this summer.
3. VIST THE PUBLIC LIBRARY. They not only have a huge kids collection but also engaging summer activities your family will love.
