Each year in May, CCA holds an election for our Board of Directors. There will be 3 open positions. 2 of the requirements to be considered as a CCA Board member are:

1. Potential candidates must attend a minimum of two (2) regular CCA Board meetings during the nine (9) months prior to the April Board meeting. The February & March Board meetings are eligible meetings for this requirement.

2. Potential candidates must interview with at least one (1) current Board member prior to the nomination form submittal deadline.

January is School Board Appreciation Month! We want to take a moment to say thank you to the wonderful members of our Board who spend countless hours working on behalf of the children and families of Cherry Creek Academy to help make an incredible learning community that is filled with compassionate staff and exceptional children and families. These Board members are unpaid volunteers that work as a team toward our common goals. Thank you for your dedication, your time and perseverance: Lara Baker, Shaden Awada, Ian Foley, Joi Hiatt, Jeff Holwell, Joanne Jordan, Kathy Underhill.

Each year we do a graduation video featuring your child and we need your help collecting images for that video. Please fill out this short google form about your graduating 8th grader where you will submit 1 baby/toddler photo and 1 current photo of your student for the video. Thank you in advance for helping us celebrate your children!

4th Grade had a field trip come to them this past week. On Wednesday, January 26, 2022 a woman came from the Molly Brown House Museum to do a presentation called Denver Grows. Both 4th grade classes got to hear the presentation and students were engaged and actively participating. It was a great experience for 4th grade and an awesome opportunity for CCA!

Last Thursday, January 27, 2022 Kindergarten celebrated their 100th day of school. The kids had so much fun dressing up, doing their 100's projects, making 100 beaded necklaces and more. The Kindergarten team always looks forward to this day each year!

Students in kindergarten through third grade practice shoe tying in PE. This year students are designing their very own “shoe”. These will be cut out, laminated and equipped with its own shoe lace for easy in class/ at home practice!

The Original Artworks Fall Fundraiser has a winner for highest sale, Ms. Stucky’s 4th grade! Congratulations, you get a free dress day!

At the end of each month we are going to do an update on our therapy dog Fitz. Mr. Mahan sent in his first update on her for January:

Fitz is 6th months old now and doing a great job in her training. Fitz has down the basic obedience skills, sit, stay, lay, etc.

Fitz really enjoys greeting everyone as they come in the building each morning. She is learning to how to walk on a leash without pulling or being distracted. We are currently working on a mailbox so that students can write Fitz letters. We're excited for Fitz to learn how to read and write so that she can write letters back! Joking aside, she is SO smart and a wonderful addition to CCA. As she continues to train to be a therapy dog, she will become more and more a part of the students day.

Dear Gifted Learning Teachers and Spelling Bee Sponsors,

Due to the continued spread of the Omicron variant and the significant substitute shortage, we need to adjust the dates of the District Spelling Bee. We will be moving the District Spelling Bee to the following dates and times.

District Spelling Bee – NEW DATES/TIMES/LOCATIONS

• Written Bee will be held on Friday, February 4, 2022, from 8 am – 1:00 pm (approximately) at our Student Achievement Resource Center (SARC) located at 14188 East Briarwood Avenue, Centennial, CO 80112
• Oral Bee will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2022, from approximately 11:00 am – 3:30 pm at our Student Achievement Resource Center (SARC) located at 14188 East Briarwood Avenue, Centennial, CO 80112

New Colorado legislation has prompted greater need to screen and document volunteers in our schools. Therefore, beginning January 2022, we must ensure that every person entering CCA must have a CCA staff badge or a visitor badge printed from the Raptor System. Please be sure to have your identification on you so that you can share that with Ms. Sadie if you need to enter CCA. Using the raptor system Ms. Sadie will then print a Raptor ID badge for you.

CCSD is also requiring that every volunteer complete a brief application to support activities in CCSD schools. This application links directly to CCSD's raptor system.

COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5-11: The FDA and CDC have approved the Pfizer Pediatric COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5-11. CCSD will host several vaccine clinics for families who choose to vaccinate their children. These clinics will offer pediatric COVID-19 vaccine doses, COVID-19 vaccines for those 12 years and older and COVID-19 vaccine boosters. Some clinics will also offer flu shots. COVID-19 testing: No-cost COVID-19 testing is available at the COVIDCheck Colorado testing site at the Instructional Support Facility, located at 5416 S. Riviera Way.
