COURSES TO SUPPORT YOUR CAREER DEVELOPMENT
PSY 397A Careers in Psychology and Professional Development. This course focuses on the specific job titles and career paths students with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology can pursue. Students will conduct in-depth career research exercises, complete professional informational interviews, and learn the best practices for having a solid online professional presence. In this course, students will learn about and examine multiple career possibilities and job titles with their bachelor's degree in the following areas: clinical and counseling psychology, educational and school psychology, industry, health and medicine, legal and forensic psychology, business and industrial-organizational psychology, sport, and performance psychology, marketing, and social media, and web development and information technology amongst others. Students will complete this course with a firm grasp of multiple career possibilities with corresponding professional documents (cover letter, resume, etc.) and a next steps path to achieve them. In addition, students will articulate, apply, and exhibit skills derived from psychology to best prepare them for successful careers in the workforce. Finally, students will explore data on the current job trends and outcomes of graduating psychology majors to inform their professional job search.

Event Description: The Women of Color Career Connections Program is a new program starting in Spring of 2024 that aims to enhance the career readiness of Women of Color. This event will be to provide information to women, transwomen, and femme people of color who may be interested in participating in the program.

Event Description: Students can select between 7 different exam prep packages offered by Kaplan Credegree. These are free, asynchronous and fully remote. These choices include:

2. CompTIA IT Fundamentals Practice Exam Package
3. Comp TIA A+ Practice Exam Package
4. Financial Paraplanner Qualified Professional ( FPQP®) Professional Designation Package

Career Academy Professional Certificate Spring 2024

Event Description: Coursera’s Career Academy provides students an opportunity to earn an entry-level professional certificate from an industry leader such as Google, IBM or Meta. Students in any major can sign up for these free, self-paced, asynchronous sessions. Upon successful completion of the program, which consists of 5-10 online courses ranging from approximately fifty to a hundred hours of total time, students earn their final certificate from the industry partner.
Examples of certificates offered include Google Project Management, Meta Social Media Marketing, UX Design, IBM Data Science. Once students register, they will be sent the link to access the online platform.

Forage Spring Session: Technical Interview Prep and Tech Explorer
Friday, January 26th, 2024 to Friday, March 8th, 2024 online

Event Description: During this session, students will learn how to utilize Forage (theforage.com), which is a free and open-access online library of employer-designed job simulations.
This session will include 2 short work simulations focused on Technical Interview Prep and Tech Explorer. These sessions include: Technical Interview Prep with employer Girls Who Code (5-6 hours) Tech Explorer with employer Commonwealth Bank (3-4 hours)
These work experiences are at the beginning or intermediate level and open to all undergraduate students.
Students who successfully complete both of the simulations by the session end date will receive a certificate of completion.
Students develop skills and gain a real understanding of a variety of industries by working through self-paced modules that are approximately 3-8 hours as if they were an employee of that company. Students receive a certificate from Forage at the successful conclusion of each work simulation. Students can add their certificate(s) to their resume and LinkedIn profile.

OPPORTUNITIES
Victim Services Division of the Pima County Attorney’s Office Crisis Intervention and Victimology Training
This is a well-structured, comprehensive, and hands-on training. The training teaches basic crisis intervention skills, concepts, and techniques. In addition, it examines various types of crimes and the specific victimization dynamics that victims of crimes may face, including common trauma reactions. This training is also the gateway into volunteering or participating in an internship with the Victim Services Division.
The training will be held at the Tucson Police Department Substation located at 1310 W. Miracle Mile Rd. from 6:00pm-9:00pm every Tuesday and Thursday from February 6, 2024, through February 29, 2024. Anyone interested in attending the training or volunteering with the division must come to one of the informational sessions.

American Heart Association (AHA) CPR Class
The University of Arizona Emergency Medical Services program is offering two types of CPR classes this spring! The cost for either course is $50. UAEMS holds monthly public classes for the American Heart Association BLS Course and can accommodate private classes for clubs, staff/faculty, fraternities/sororities, and more.
