Family Newsletter
March 23, 2023
Dear Erickson Families,
Spring Break is next week! The school will be closed March 27- March 31, 2023.
Student Placement for 2023-2024 will take place in May. Parents can assist in the process by completing a Student Placement Form 23-24 Parent input about their child’s academic experiences can provide valuable insight to this process. Parents should not use this form to recommend a specific classroom teacher. If you are interested in filling out the form (this is NOT mandatory), please complete by May 5.
Yearbook Orders...see the flyer below to learn about ordering a 2023-2024 Erickson Yearbook. Flyers were also sent home with students.
Paws for a Cause Fundraiser raised $2150.12! Way to go Erickson students and families! The money raised will be donated to the Anderson Animal Shelter. The class that raised the most money was Mrs. Spagnoli's class. They donated $251.12 and earned a classroom pizza party! Great job, Mrs. Spagnoli's class.
Congratulations to the CITIZENSHIP PILLAR who earned the most Eagle Tickets during the 2nd Trimester, over 700 Eagle Tickets. Students in the Citizenship Pillar had a party and played St. Patrick's Day Bingo and won fun prizes. Way to go Citizenship Pillar.
Thank you to the 5th grade students for participating in a 5th Grade Service Project revolving around literacy. Fifth grade students created an audio recording of a book or created a book summary audio recording. Then attached the audio recording to a QR code, placed the QR code on a bookmark and then inserted the bookmark in the actual book. The books were then donated to the Humanitarian Service Project out of Carol Stream and will go to children in the area on their birthdays.
5Essentials Parent Survey is STILL OPEN (closes on March 31). Please read information below about this survey. We need at least 20% of parent participation for results to be published. This information is made public on the Illinois State Report Card. THIS IS HOW THE PUBLIC WILL VIEW ERICKSON...Please consider participating. As of March 21st, Erickson still has 17% parent response rate! I do review the data...so please take the time to give your input! THANK YOU!

Erin's Law
March 17th, 2023
Dear Parents,
Child abuse curriculum lessons, otherwise known as the state mandated Erin’s Law, will once again be conducted in all K-5 classrooms to educate students on safe and unsafe touches, safe and unsafe secrets, and how to get away and tell a trusted adult. Lessons will teach children how to recognize child abuse, equip them with skills to reduce their vulnerability, and encourage them to report abuse. District 13 uses a curriculum entitled Kids In The Know that focuses on teaching the above mentioned skills. The classroom lessons will be conducted in April and May.
As a parent, I would encourage you to discuss these subjects with your child. You may preview the Kids In The Know curriculum, by age level, by going to Kids In The Know . If you would rather not have your child participate in this instruction, please put your request in writing and send it to the school office attention Mrs. Treanor. If you have any questions about this or any other related topic, please do not hesitate to call me at 630-529-2223.
Sincerely,
Charla Treanor, LCSW
