KIA ORA VOGELTOWN WHANAU
Wowwee, that was an awesome week! Welcome to the end of Week 5 whanau! We had a lot of fun this week and celebrated in so many ways.
Firstly, we celebrated our 400 day - 400 kids now at Vogeltown, that is an amazing number of learners! We also have over 400 whanau connected to our school now! We had a fantastic Parade (with our cool hats) and then had a photo of all 400 of us in a '400' (see photo). Then we all went home with an ice block - the perfect afternoon!
Today we celebrated our Hangi. We had postponed it till today, and I am so glad we did - what an amazing day we had! Thanks so much to everyone for their donations, it was truly humbling. Our Year 6 learners stayed over last night to help get the hangi ready and light the fire at 4am this morning - they were outstanding! Such great Vogeltowners who all helped out in any way they could to make today a huge success! To our amazing community, thanks for coming in and sharing lunch with us - itmnakes it all worth it!
A big thanks to Spudz who sponsored a lot of our veges, thanks to Dave Hare again for the use of his hangi making gear (and his wonderful knowledge) and to Ash Carley and Knead for the 'pick me up' for morning tea today! I must mention our fantastic Paetoki leader Mr Ransfield who again showed coolness under pressure and delivered a great hangi - ka mau te wehi Nathan.
A massive thanks to our Home and School committee and our amazing community who again made an amazing profit with the latest raffle! We raised $6,793, that is an briliant effort, thank you so much whanau. We have now paid for the new marquees for the school - which we are going to need if this summer is a cracker!
This week we farewelled two student teachers who have been with us for all of this term and some of last term. To Mr Koch (who was in Rm 6) and to Miss Butters (who was in Rm 10) we wish them well on their teaching careers and upcoming teaching practices in 2024. Both Jack and Sophie made a great impact in Rm 6 and Rm 10. Kei runga noa atu koe whanau!
UPCOMING NEXT WEEK:
This coming Monday we have a Teacher only day - this is in line with the Ministry of Education's curriculum refresh. We are meeting with other New Plymouth Schools at Te Whare Hononga and doing a day around our localised curriculum - incorporating Pukākā Pa (Marsland Hill) and St Mary's Church.
We also have our Year 6 learners involved in 'Swim-safe' at the Aquatic centre. A permission form came home this week about this. Or, alternatively you can grant permission on the Skool Loop app.
A NOTE ABOUT SCHOOL PHOTOS
Photo-life will send the shoot-key to all families, we will have a copy of the code in the office, but it may pay to check your spam/junk for photo-life emails. As soon as we know they have emailed families, we will send out some comms to let you know.
Have a great weekend whānau!

HATS - PŌTAE
A reminder to our whānau that all of our Vogeltown learners must wear a bucket hat in Term 4. The sun becomes more intense over the term, so the bucket hat is the best way to protect faces and necks.
You can purchase a school hat from the senior office for $17 but any bucket hat is fine to wear.
We also have sunscreen in the classrooms.

ENROLMENTS AT VS FOR 2024
OUT OF ZONE ENROLMENTS 2024:
Enrolment at Vogeltown School is governed by an enrolment scheme, details of which are available from the school office or from our website.
Next year there will be two enrolment periods.
The first enrolment period will run from 30 January 2024 to 12 April 2024.
The second enrolment period will run from 29 April 2024 to 5 July 2024.
The Board has determined that 0 places are likely to be available for out of zone students turning 5 in the first enrolment period. The Board will determine how many places are likely to be available for out of zone students turning 5 for the second enrolment period by Wednesday 14th February 2024. The exact number of places will depend on the number of enrolments received from students who live within the school's home zone.
For students seeking enrolment within the second enrolment period, the deadline for receipt of out of zone places is Friday 23rd February 2024. Application for enrolment for an out of zone student is made by completing an out of zone application form (available from the school office and from our website). Applications can be sent via email to office@vogeltown.school.nz or delivered directly to the school office.
Parents and whanau who live in the home zone and intend enrolling their child for 2024 should apply by Friday 6th October 2023 to assist the school to plan effectively for the 2024 school year.
For the second enrolment period, if the number of out of zone applications exceeds the places available, students will be selected by ballot in accordance with instructions detailed in the enrolment scheme. If a ballot is required, it will be held on Monday 26th February 2024. Parents and whanau will be informed of the outcome of the ballot on Tuesday 27th February 2024.
