Mid-Quarter Update
We are now entering the 5th week of the school year! It's hard to believe we are now midway through the first marking period. Parents, I encourage you to view your child's grades on PowerSchool and to be in communication with your child's teachers about their progress. This week progress reports will go home with students.
As we progress through the semester, please keep in mind that students can receive additional academic support by signing up for tutorial during our SURGE block. Any student who has lower than a 70 average in a course is required to attend tutorial for that class to make up work, receive remediation, or get additional support on classroom assignments.
The first marking period ends on October 26. There's time left to make improvements, if it's needed.
Seaforth Hires 2 New Exceptional Children's Teachers
We are excited to announce that we have hired two Exceptional Children's (EC) teachers to join the Seaforth family! Mrs. Vanessa Burgess and Ms. Leah Waldman are a welcomed addition to our EC department and to our school. Both bring years of experience and a passion for teaching and learning to our school. Mrs. Burgess and Ms. Waldman will be serving as EC Resource teachers and will provide instructional support as well as curriculum assistance to students. Mrs. Burgess has already started at Seaforth. Her first day was last Tuesday, September 19. Ms. Waldman, will be joining us, officially, next week. We are fortunate and elated to have them both join our team!

https://forms.gle/aQxFQrU1KS6Tqu276
The ASVAB test will help you:
- Learn about yourself and the world of work
- Explore occupations within your area(s) of interest and skills
- Develop an effective strategy to realize your career and educational goals
One of the scores of the ASVAB is the military services’ entrance score which you can use to explore career options in the military. By no means are you obligated to military service as the ASVAB is designed to allow for exploration of both military and civilian jobs. Therefore, should you wish to explore further options with the military, you will need to contact the military branch of your choice. The school has elected not to release the scores to the military.
If you have questions, please see Ms. Bowman in A105F or email her at tbowman@chatham.k12.nc.us.
Seaforth Teacher Vacancy Update
Parents here is an update on our teacher vacancies. We have reduced our teacher vacancies from 8 to 6 with the hiring of two EC teachers. They include:
Math (4)
World Language (1)
EC Severe & Profound (1)
We do have three teachers who will be leaving us before the end of the semester. They are:
- Mr. Volcan (World Language) - Last day at Seaforth 10/11
- Mrs. Volcan (World Language) - Last day at Seaforth 10/16
- Mr. Byrd (CTE) - Last day at Seaforth 9/29
We are currently interviewing candidates for all current and upcoming vacancies. We have recommended for hire a math teacher. We hope to have that person in place very soon. We have also agreed to hire a retired teacher on a part-time basis to support our math students. That person will be in place soon as well and will assist us in helping our math students. Once we have those people in place that will bring our math vacancies down from four to two and a half. If you know of anyone interested in any of our vacant positions, please encourage them to apply or to email me at rstclair@chatham.k12.nc.us.
