PSAT Testing
On Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at 8:10 a.m., all sophomores and juniors will be taking the PSAT/NMSQT exam. Freshmen and seniors will not be required to report to school until 11:30 a.m. School busing will run as normally scheduled, so any student who requires bus transportation may report to the cafeteria from 8:10-11:30 AM for a quiet study. There will be no cost to students for the PSAT/NMSQT exam.
The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is a program sponsored by the College Board and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). This exam is a standardized assessment that will serve as great practice for the SAT Exam which is taken during junior and/or senior year. Students will also have an opportunity, through their participation and performance, to enter scholarship programs and receive access to college and career planning tools.
The PSAT/NMSQT assessment showcases the classroom skills and knowledge that are essential for college and career readiness and success. We encourage your child to take advantage of the many benefits the PSAT test offers:
Connects students to colleges and universities across the country, and to scholarship organizations by opting into Student Search Service®.
Prepares students for the SAT®, and college, and it fuels practice recommendations on Khan Academy®.
Matches students with AP® courses that make the most of their academic strengths. AP classes can provide an edge in the admission process and an opportunity to earn college credit.
More information on the PSAT test, including practice materials, can be found here. This year we are transitioning to the computer-based PSAT Test, so students should bring a charged Chromebook with their power cord. A tutorial can be viewed here. During the last week of September and/or the first week of October, guidance counselors will walk students through a “digital readiness” check to ensure the devices are ready for students on the test-taking date.
We are looking forward to providing this opportunity for all sophomores and juniors this year. We are confident this practice will serve as a valuable learning experience and assist our students' future preparations.
