A Note from Mr. Gregorio
Hello Paradise Ridge Elementary School Families,
I hope you are doing well and that the stormy weather has not caused any problems for you or your family. Though they spent more time inside than they would have wanted, the students did a great job of returning to school last week. As I visited classrooms, I observed students who were glad to be back at school and diligently working on their classroom lessons.
Our virtue for the month of January is compassion. While empathy allows us to understand others' emotions, compassion calls us to help those who we see are in need. Though lengthy, this article does a nice job of describing how children develop compassion early on and how we can nurture this important virtue as they grow.
Last November, I asked all parents and students in grades 2-6 to complete a safety survey. Though Paradise Ridge Elementary scored high marks in many areas, a couple of concerns were made evident. Approximately 30% of the students reported that their peers were unkind some of the time. Additionally, several parents and students mentioned that bullying incidents occurred at Paradise Ridge. Though the Paradise Ridge Elementary staff takes great pride in creating a safe and kind learning environment for all students, we realize we have more work to do in these areas.
For the month of January and February, I will be visiting the TK through second-grade classes to read a children's story on kindness, and the third through sixth-grade classes talking about the similarities and differences between rude, mean, and bullying behaviors. My initial presentations will be followed up by classroom discussions on how to effectively address others' rude, mean, and bullying behaviors and how to seek help from an adult when needed. Though my initial presentation is still a work in progress, I want to share with you what I am sharing with the students.
Just a reminder to please inform me or your child's teacher if you feel that s/he is being bullied at school. By working together, we can make sure that our students develop the skills to be kind, compassionate, and asserive.
Thank you for your continual support!

“Because I’m a Girl on the Run, I know that I am stronger than anyone anticipated.” -Allison
This spring give the gift of the GOTR experience to your 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade girl!
Parents/Guardians – We are happy to announce that our school will be hosting a Girls on the Run team this spring for girls in 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade.
Registration Opens on January 17th at 6am on a FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED basis and will stay open until we reach a full team of 15 or February 27th - whichever comes first.
Girls on the Run is WAY more than a running program. Through dynamic, conversation-based lessons and running games taught by certified Girls on the Run coaches, Girls on the Run is a safe, supportive place for your girl to build her CONFIDENCE, CONNECT with peers who turn into friends, and learn LIFE SKILLS to help her navigate her world.
Meeting twice a week in small teams of 8-15 girls, running is used to teach girls how to set a goal, slowly work toward it and accomplish it while encouraging lifelong health and fitness and building confidence through accomplishment.
Volunteer coaches follow a research-based curriculum that covers topics such as:
how to turn negative self-talk into positive self-talk
how to understand their emotions
how to choose good friends and be a good friend
how to show gratitude and express empathy
how to deal with gossip and handle peer pressure
and SO MUCH MORE!
At the season's conclusion, the girls will complete a 5K (3.1 miles) fun run Saturday, May 6th. Completing the 5K gives the girls a tangible sense of achievement as well as a framework for setting and achieving life goals.
The result—making the seemingly impossible, possible and teaching girls that they CAN.
Our spring season will begin the week of Feb. 20th or Feb. 27th 2023
(start time depends on school schedule)
Teams are limited to 15 girls
Registration fee is on a sliding scale based on Household Income: $25-$145
